UNDER REVIEW: NYX Cashmere 630 Jumbo Eye Pencil

NYX Cashmere 630 Jumbo Eye Pencil

If there’s an award for THE most gorgeous, shimmery, pale champagne eyeshadow colour, then surely NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in ‘Cashmere 630’ will take first place.

Although it’s highly pigmented, it’s not a tacky, over the top ‘artificial’ gold shade – it’s a soft and sheeny metallic, yet it still packs a punch.

It can be used as an eyeliner, although the texture is much more slippery and oilier, than Milk, and I’m not sure it really shows up that well on pale skin.

However, I can see how it would work as a slick of eyeliner on the upper lid, on darker skin tones – although use primer underneath to give it longevity, and stop it sliding around.

So many reviewers complain that these shimmery shades from the Jumbo collection tend to crease a lot, and suggest you should always apply this pencil on top of a good primer.

I go the opposite way and use Milk as the primer to ‘pop’ my eyeshadow colour, which is how I’m going to use Cashmere – although not over Milk, probably the ever reliable Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion.

I photographed this swatch in bright daylight.

Swatch NYX Cashmere 630 Jumbo Eye Pencil NEW LID DESIGN?

The lid on my old pencil is long gone, not surprising really, as I think it was fashioned out of angel’s breath. It’s well know that the lids on the Jumbo Pencils are notoriously flimsy, and crack if you so much as look at them the wrong way.

Now, I’m not sure, but I think this is a ‘new and improved’ lid. The plastic feels a little thicker and a tiny bit studier – time will tell.

The casing is plastic, not wood, and apparently it doesn’t fit all jumbo pencil sharpeners, although I know it works with the Charlotte Tilbury pencil sharpener.

Oily or waxy eye pencils are of course softer and the tip here (as with all eye pencils really), is to pop the pencil in the fridge or freezer first to firm up the lead.

If you don’t mind a bit of faffing about, you can follow these instructions by Kishes on the MakeUpAlley website and depot the shadow.

She says:

These can then be applied as cream shadows and if I wanted to make fine lines with it, I take a stiff angled brush to apply it as eyeliner.
