REVIEW NuFACE Trinity® Toning Device UPDATED

NuFACE Trinity® Toning Device

Huge in America and now available here, the NuFACE Trinity® Toning Device is the answer to anyone who wants all the lifting and firming benefits of the CACI Microlift, without the need to assemble parts and follow a detailed treatment programme.

Foolproof doesn’t even cover how easy it is to use the NuFace Trinity device.

NuFACE uses the same micro-current technology as the CACI Microlift, but in a completely different way. Here, the micro-current is delivered through the metal spheres, and because the charge alternates, the current flows into the skin and tissues through one sphere and loops back to the opposite sphere.

It’s simply a matter of gliding the device over the face – easy, fast and efficient.

This FDA-approved handheld, facial toning device is clinically tested to improve facial contour, tone, and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, in an easy-to-use, at-home system.

NuFACE NuFACE Trinity® Toning Device

HOW TO USE

  • Wash your face with an oil-free cleanser. Men should shave before use as hair can interfere with the conductivity
  • Glide along the natural contours of your face, in an upward motion. Each glide should last five seconds. Repeat three times
  • Each treatment should last five to 20 minutes (for the more intensive lifting programme)
  • Use at least five times a week, for the first 90 days. After that, use two to three times a week to maintain results
  • Remove the NuFACE Primer with a warm, damp washcloth
  • Apply your preferred moisturiser

NECK AREA

Before I trial anything for this site, I always do some research and I have to say, there’s a bit of misinformation from some users, especially on YouTube.

I’ve watched a lot of US YouTube beauty bloggers using this device on their necks. I understand a crepey neck is a big deal, but NuFACE devices are FDA-cleared for the face only and that is the official advice. If they don’t specifically recommend it for use on the neck, then don’t use it on that area.

Professional spas are different though and they may offer micro-current treatments for all parts of the body.

CAN I USE ALOE VERA GEL INSTEAD OF NUFACE GEL?

I understand where people are coming from with this question. You can buy a 200ml tube of high-quality aloe vera gel for half the price of a 59ml tube of NuFACE Gel Primer.

The thing is, the two gels are not the same, unlike aloe vera, the NuFACE Gel Primer is conductivity gel, formulated with conductive polymers that carry the current into the tissues.

That said, aloe vera gel would perhaps technically work, but you’ve invested £300.00 in this device, it makes sense to recoup every penny and use it with the approved gel for the best possible results.

Plus you really do only need a thin coat of the Gel Primer, just enough to create a barrier between your bare skin and the device.

The good news is that each tube should last 5-6 weeks and CurrentBody throw in an extra tube, so that’s your first 3 months of treatment covered.

REVIEWS

I first experienced the Trinity during a facial at a spa and I noticed a gentle tightening after just one treatment. I bought one for home and I truly see a difference in the contour of my face and I feel a tightening of the muscles beneath my skin.

The gel dries a bit too quickly so I keep a spray bottle of Evian handy to rehydrated my skin so the Trinity will not drag across my skin.

I am in my mid 30s and I love this tool for adding more contouring right under my cheekbones – I use it daily. I would highly recommend to anyone who has a fuller face and is looking for more definition!

The Ele is designed to reach the areas the Trinity can’t, such as the laugh lines around the mouth, above & under the lips and around the eye area. I am seeing noticeable results and am very happy with my purchases.

Ever since the first use, I’ve noticed slight uplift in my eyebrows, and cheeks, as well as a more defined look for my jawlines. I use this device for about 15 minutes daily in the mornings. 10 minutes with the packaged trainer and 5 minutes with the ELE attachment.

AND THIS ONE

Micro-current technology is known to tone facial muscles, but we are yet to see a solid clinical study into its anti-ageing benefits.

I read it and thought, hang on, tone facial muscles? TONE? That IS anti-ageing and that’s EXACTLY what we want!

As you get older, everything slides down and we’re always on the lookout for anything we can do to firm and hoist it all back up. Facially, using the NuFACE Trinity Toning Device is probably as easy as it’s going to get, but you must be committed and use it regularly, those 5 minutes will reward you later. If you can also stretch to the advanced (still very easy), 15-minute routine, even better.

USEFUL TIPS

Keep the device charged – once it is fully charged, it stops drawing electricity.

Get into the habit of using it at least 5 times a week. Those facial muscles need to know their place.

I also read that the device is very useful in preparing the skin for deeper skin care product penetrating. Good to know if you want to apply an intensive moisturising treatment/face mask afterwards.

FIRST REVIEW

Read the instruction manual and watch the CurrentBody video with Emily here for a comprehensive demonstration of the basic 5 Minute Facial Lift treatment.

I aim to do the 15-minute Advanced Technique three times a week.

Skin needs to be oil-free for the device to work with the current. Some people use micellar water to prep skin, but I prefer a cream cleanser, followed by a gentle toner.

The device is very comfortable to hold, ‘ergonomic design’ and all that jazz.

In the beginning, I was counting up the 5 seconds and trying to finish close to the ear on count 5. But gradually, you get a feel for it, and know-how to control the speed of the glide.

To prevent the gel from drying out, it’s recommended to apply the gel only on the area you’re currently treating. There are a couple of the same concerns I’ve read that say the gel disappears/dries too quickly. I’ve not experienced this particular problem, but I do keep a water mist bottle close by just in case. I also use a damp muslin cloth to wipe down the silver spheres between treatments.

There are 5 settings, but I’ve always use the highest one, you can’t feel a thing during the treatment, there’s no stinging or strange sensations, nothing. Although, when I use it on my forehead, I am aware of a brief flash of light out of the corner of my eye.

NuFACE recommends you use the Trinity to treat one side of the face first to see an immediate lifting effect. This is spot-on advice, it’s very encouraging to see the difference between the treated and untreated halves of the face.

If I was going to compare it to my beloved CACI Microlift, I would say that with the Microlift, the first sign of a visible lift is over the eyebrows. With the Trinity, it’s the cheek area that lifts first.

I didn’t experience any redness afterwards – and my skin is very contrary and super sensitive. A 20 minute Trinity treatment is perfect before a night out, or that all-important selfie!

ADDITIONAL TREATMENT HEADS

Talking of an eyebrow lift, you can buy the ELE Attachment Head. These two small (alien antenna-like), prongs specifically target treatment areas around the eyes and lips.

There’s also a Wrinkle Reducer Head that uses LED Red Light Therapy. I’m a huge fan of LED because of the results I’ve had from using the LightStim device. The use of this red light technology causes the production of collagen and elastin, the two things responsible for plumping out skin to reduce lines and wrinkles.

I’ll be using these attachments later on and will post another update.

UPDATE 11th October 2015

When I began to trial this beauty device for the site, the first sign that something was happening, was visible in and around the cheek area. If you are looking to gently sculpt or ‘restore’ your cheekbones, then NuFace Trinity will certainly help you on your way.

I think the jowl area is a tougher nut to crack though, but I’m going to keep up my sessions and watch for further, more tangible, signs of a sharper jawline.

However, by far the biggest improvement I’ve found is how my eyebrows and therefore my upper eyelids, have significantly lifted.

The irony is that I actually don’t like using any kind of ‘gadget’ on my forehead area. The bone is very close to the skin, there’s no fat cushioning of muscle, so I’ve always found my forehead area to be very sensitive.

Fortunately, even though there are two hard metal balls on the NuFace device, it’s not uncomfortable because, with the aid of the gel, you’re either gliding the device upwards in a slow steady motion or, you’re using the lifting technique and keeping the device in one place and raising it slightly, it doesn’t hurt at all.

I have always credited CACI Microlift for lifting my eyebrows upwards ‘Kylie Stylee’ but the NuFace does exactly the same thing. I wear a fringe, so I didn’t notice anything too different at first, until one day when I was applying eyeshadow into the crease area, I noticed that my upper eyelid wasn’t as hooded as it had been, and my eyes looked wide awake. I then saw that I didn’t have to fake a crease line to open up my eyes, because mine were perfectly visible and very nearly ‘crepe’ free!

There’s also a very definite arching of my eyebrows, certainly not that obvious tell-tale Botox arching, but a rise in the middle all the same.

I can actually see the science behind this and how NuFace works. The corrugator muscles in and above the eyebrows are traditionally treated with Botox to freeze them and thereby create a lifting effect by preventing them from drooping (loss of muscle tones occurs naturally as we age).

By using the NuFace Trinity device with the spheres positioned on these very same muscles above the eyebrows, the microcurrent works to stimulate and lift them, which in turn produces that lifting effect.

UPDATE: 11th April 2016

This is an unusual update because I stopped using this facial toning device (and also the Newa, a similar update will be posted on that review) for the first 3 months of this year.

It was particularly hard for me because I used each device for specific areas of my face and/or jawline and I was more than happy with the results.

I missed both products equally but felt the loss of the NuFACE treatment really showed on my face first, in particular, the upper eye area. I know this because NuFACE had gradually lifted my eyebrows – not in a crazy, ‘surprised’ way, but in a way that meant I could apply eye shadow in the crease and actually see the colour!

Those upper eyelids were just starting to lose the crepiness and very slight hooding, but until I stopped using the device, I hadn’t realised quite how lifted they had become.

I must admit that getting back into the routine has been quite difficult – I gather everything together, but something always else crops up and I put it off until the next day. I really do wonder how I managed to find the time before?

Having said that, I had to raise my crease line that bit higher this morning when I was doing my eye makeup, so I know that I will make the time (tonight!) and use both devices regularly until I can slip back into twice-weekly maintenance treatments.
