Years ago, decades actually, SkinCeuticals was one of those brands that only magazine beauty editors knew about but didn’t like to share with ‘non-industry’ types.

I don’t know whether it was because it was hard to source by us mere mortals if we weren’t regular beauty clinic aficionados or that it was prohibitively expensive. It was a skincare secret they kept to themselves.

Now, of course, the brand is widely available – but still clings onto that spendy price tag because of its stellar reputation.

A quick Google reveals that their famous vitamin C serum, C E Ferulic, features in every dermatologist’s personal anti-ageing skincare routine. I love reading these lists even though I have to physically stop myself from buying everything they recommend, though it’s reassuring to see the same products appear again and again.

Combining a trio of hero ingredients, the daytime vitamin C serum promotes a radiant complexion, while helping to soften the appearance of fine lines.

A synergistic antioxidant blend of vitamins C, E and ferulic acid, helps to improve the visible signs of photo-damage, promoting a brighter and more evenly-toned visage.

But that price tag of £145.00 for 30ml is a lot if you haven’t used it before which is why this starter kit seems like a ‘safe’ place to start.

This highly effective ‘Age Renewal’ starter regime is the perfect SkinCeuticals introduction for those with normal, dry or ageing skin.

Including SkinCeuticals product icons; C E Ferulic (Vitamin C antioxidant serum) and Advanced Brightening UV Defense SPF 50+, this kit is clinically proven to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and discolouration in just 4 weeks.

Whether you have never tried SkinCeuticals before or you want to broaden your existing routine, this routine is recommended by experts to improve your skin’s health and will last around 6-8 weeks.

  • Gentle Cleanser, 200ml  – Cream cleanser formulated to hydrate and comfort dry, tight skin while smoothing rough surface texture
  • C E Ferulic, 15ml – Patented antioxidant Vitamin C serum for daytime use. Enriched with 15% pure vitamin C (L-Ascorbic acid), 1% vitamin (alpha-tocopherol)  and 0.5% ferulic acid the formula helps to reinforce skin’s natural protection from free radical damage and improve the appearance of visible signs of ageing.
  • H.A. Intensifier, 15ml – Powerful corrective serum that helps amplify skin’s hyaluronic acid levels by +30% to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and skin texture.
  • Advanced Brightening UV Defense SPF 50+, 15ml – Dual-action protective and corrective broad-spectrum sunscreen. Formulated with a potent blend of discolouration targeting ingredients for a brighter, more even complexion

AM – Massage a small amount of Gentle Cleanser onto wet skin, rinse thoroughly with water and pat dry.

Next, use fingertips to apply 4-5 drops of C E Ferulic to the face, neck and chest before following with H.A. Intensifier, again using fingertips to apply.

Finally, layer any other SkinCeuticals moisturisers before putting on your broad-spectrum sunscreen Advanced Brightening UV Defense, avoiding the eye area.

PM – Gently massage a small amount of Gentle Cleanser onto a wet face and neck, rinse thoroughly with water and pat dry.

Massage H.A. Intensifier onto dry face, neck and chest.

Follow with an eye cream and moisturiser.

If we break it down, it’s just a cleanser, vitamin c serum, hyaluronic acid and a high SPF, a good basic start to any anti-ageing skincare regime. You could, in fact, find similar products for a third of the price ie at The Ordinary – which of course, I recommend.

But that SkinCeuticals label – they are the number one medical aesthetic skincare brand in America, means it’s backed up by continued scientific research (SkinCeuticals was the first brand to patent a stable form of vitamin C), and used by industry professionals.

It’s a solid starting point for those who want to try star player C E Ferulic but are put off by the price.

As usual, I’ve found the very price for this kit. I’ve looked around and it’s on sale for £195.00 at most places, £145.00 at Look Fantastic, but £119.99 at Face the Future (price correct on 1st April 2022).
