REVIEW: SkinPep® Ultra Retinol Night Cream / Hydra Boost Combo

Ultra Retinol Night Cream/Hydro Boost Combo

Many years ago, I remember reading about retinol in a glossy magazine. I recall that it was hailed as a ‘miraculous’ anti-ageing ingredient. But as I was wrinkle free back then (where is that time machine?), I didn’t care was always a bit hazy about the specifics.

Roll on 20 years and what I DO know is that with the proven ability to speed up skin cell turnover and thus promote younger looking skin, this active form of vitamin A is now a vital component of high end anti-ageing products.  In varying strengths of potency, retinol is capable of boosting collagen production, smoothing skin texture and evening out pigmentation.

Retinol has several effects. Firstly, it increases cell production in the top layer of skin, so it helps to pep up the skin. Cells look smoother and skin looks younger.

It also has a positive effect on collagen production, because skin uses retinoic acid when it produces collagen. As a result, skin looks plumper. Also, it helps to reduce pigmentation that comes with sun damage.

SkinPep® sell Ultra Retinol Night Serum on its own, but also offer a duo comprising 0.5% strength retinol to be diluted with Hydra Boost Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum. Mixed together, these products enable skin (especially sensitive skin), to slowly build up tolerance to retinol.

I believe this valuable combination, the proven strength of retinol tamed with a super hydrating serum is a gentle and safe introduction to the anti-ageing skin care powerhouse that is retinol.

SkinPep® Ultra Retinol 0.5% helps stimulate cell regeneration and build collagen to diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and age spots from both photo and intrinsic ageing.

Additionally, it helps minimise the appearance of pore size, while correcting blemishes and blotchiness often associated with problematic skin. SkinPep® Ultra Retinol 0.5% is recommended for blemished, wrinkled and sun damaged skin.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is vital structural components of skin that declines as we age and is responsible for the skin’s moisture, suppleness and elasticity. As we age, our body produces less and less of this important acid, thus affecting how moisture is stored in our skin.
SkinPep® Hydra-Boost – Pure Hyaluronic acid Serum, provides the nourishing ingredients your skin needs to stay radiant and beautiful. In only moments, it penetrates deep into the skin, nourishing it from the core. It May boost skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of wrinkles by supporting the body’s own skin production cycle.

SkinPep® Hydra-Boost

Due to the super concentrated nature of the product we recommend beginners should be mixed with SkinPep Hydra Boost to increase the volume and allow a small amount to easily cover the face. This strategy allows daily use.

Your skin will start to glow within 7 days. Use daily for up to 3 months while your skin acclimatises to the potency.

After my usual skin allergy tests, I’ve been applying the two serums at night, diluted 4 to 1, as directed – once the first week, twice the second week etc.

The products mix well together in the palm of your hand and should be applied after cleansing.

I’ve not experienced irritation, redness or peeling, but my skin certainly feels ‘different’ and smoother the next morning. It’s encouraging when you get an early (well, 5 weeks) result, you want to keep the regime going to see further improvement.

I’m at the point where I’m now confident enough with the products to apply them to my delicate chest area and the back of my hands as suggested.

Economically, buying the trial duo 1 x Retinol Serum 7ml + 2 x Hydra Boost 15ml for £24.99 is a slightly more expensive option (per ml of product) than buying the full size products.

However, I do highly recommend these trial sizes if you’re unsure about retinol. To make the tubes last longer, I suggest you use the serums only on targeted problem areas. You’re still saving £7.98 if you were to buy the products separately.

The SkinPep® combo sets are excellent value. As an example, buying the full size Retinol and Hydra Boost duo will save you £16.99 on the individual products.
