Promoted as a ‘chemical peel without the redness & rawness’ Skin Doctors Gamma Hydroxy cream is a skin resurfacing product. Key ingredients are a trio of acids which are combined in order to promote and regenerate skin renewal: Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid and Salicylic Acid.
If you’re curious as to why AHAs are so beloved by the cosmetic industry, you can read more about them on this Alpha Hydroxy Acid Wiki page it’s an interesting (but short!) read.
I first came across this cream by way of a ‘luxury sample’ I bought from Latest in Beauty. The website is poorly designed and confusing (granted, it might just be me who gets confused). They’ve got a sort of Glossy Box type of thing going on, but the difference is you can see what you’re buying first.
It was actually three samples and they lasted quite a while as I used meagre amounts each time on my sometimes sensitive skin. You really don’t want to take any risks when you’re dealing with such a potent product.
The thing is, it does what it says on the tin, well, up to a point. I wouldn’t, as the official site says: ‘Use it every day, apply a thin layer under make up’ It’s far too strong for that. But my skin’s improved gradually (over a period of 6 months, not the three months they suggest) and become noticeably smoother. I only use it twice a week every other week.
The problem is that after applying even the thinnest of layers, my face DOES sting like hell for a few torturous minutes, it’s a ‘gripping the edge of the table with gritted teeth’ kind of sting which is a shame, but it’s precisely because those pesky fruit and milk acids really do get to work killing off those dead cells. I just wish I couldn’t feel each and every one of them being tortured and sloughed away. #dramaqueen
I should also point out that you should take extra care in the sun when you’re using creams containing AHAs, your skin is going to be much more sensitive and prolonged use could thin the skin which is why I apply and use it sparingly.
Skin Doctors Gamma Hydroxy (50ml) was £41.99 Now £28.30 Look Fantastic *
Sounds interesting. I recently reviewed their Accelerating Cleanser which was very good. I highly recommend it! 🙂
Hi there, I’m not sure I could be parted from my Liz Earle ‘Cleanse & Polish’, I’m very loyal to a product that actually works, but I’ll nip over to yours and have a read. I also use Liquid Gold which is more of less the same thing in lotion form but it doesn’t make me scream in agony. I must get a review up on it at some point.
