I don’t use cleansing cloths to remove my make up. Even when I first started to wear make up I was always diligent about taking it off properly (I must have read a scare story in Jackie). I used Lemon Delphi Cleansing Milk and the accompanying Lemon Toner which was so astringent it would remove make up by burning off the top layer of skin – at least that’s what it felt like.
I can only think these PIXI Make Up Melting Cleansing Cloths were included as part of a set of PIXI products, because I wouldn’t go out and buy them, especially at £10.00 for 40, I think that’s rather expensive.
Take off make up quickly and conveniently with these on-the-go cleansing cloths that gently remove even waterproof formulas in one easy step.
Each soft cloth is infused with chamomile and grape seed oil to calm skin, leaving it feeling perfectly clean and balanced.
Last Saturday was an incredibly busy one for me. I had a list of 30 things to do with and without family and I ticked each one off. I even managed to stay awake through La La Land, which Mark and I thought was a rip off of every old Hollywood musical we’d ever seen – apparently it’s just us two who feel this way. My boys (men really, 21 and 16) thought it was innovative and the best film ever.
It was 1.30am by the time we got home and I was just too tired to take my make up off properly – Liz Earle Cleanser on my eyes, rinsed off with a warm wet muslin cloth and N-SPA on the rest of my face and neck. So when I spotted the PIXI cloths, I thought even a basic wipe would be better than sleeping with a full face of slap.
REVIEW
The hard plastic opening is designed to keep the cloths moist, although the first one (quite understandably), wasn’t particularly wet. The scent is gorgeous, I think it smells of rose, although I can’t see any rose related ingredients on the list, unless it comes under parfum.
The cloths underneath the first one weren’t overly saturated, but they were just wet enough to glide comfortably over the skin. They’re fairly soft, as you use them they dry out rapidly.
I had quite heavy eye make up on because I knew it would have to last the day and I did have a touch of the old panda eyes. I used the first wipe for my make up and my neck and chest, the cloth of course turned orange, it doesn’t matter what shade of foundation you use, it will always come off as bright orange.
The second one was for my eyes, there was some blackness but not as much as I was expecting. I realised afterwards that the cloths really do melt make up instead of moving it around as some cleansers do.
I used a third cloth to go over everything again, although there was no residue on this cloth, it remained white but dried out quickly. My face felt a bit sticky.
I was sitting on the edge of the bed and didn’t look in the mirror until I went to brush my teeth. I was expecting to see smudges of eyeliner or mascara at the very least, but there wasn’t any at all. My face was completely clean, not even pink from the rubbing, although I was gentle.
I’m rather impressed. My face didn’t feel as clean as it would after a thorough muslin cloth and cream cleanser routine, but all make up was removed and there wasn’t a trace of eye make up. They did their job.
These cloths would be ideal for travelling, festivals, the gym, or for those late nights when you are too tired to do a proper cleansing routine.
SHOPPING INFO
PIXI Make Up Melting Cleansing Cloths (40 cloths) £10.00 from PIXI, M&S, Look Fantastic, Beauty Bay, Bath & Unwind.
They seem to be out of stock everywhere, which means they’re extremely popular, or, and I’ve seen this before with other brands, they’ve been quietly dropped by PIXI. I’ll keep an eye out for them.
Talking of cleansers and PIXI, has anyone tried Caroline Hirons’ Double Cleanse? 50ml of solid oil cleanser and 50ml of cream cleanser for £24.00 (bit high?). I’d like trial it, but I’ve just counted 8 cleansers I’ve not yet opened, so I’m holding off for a while.

The photo I used above is from photographer Leland Bobbé’s Half-Drag series, which I’ve posted about on here before. The close up photos of the transformations are fascinating and rather beautiful.
I love how make up can transform a face, any face – but at the end of the night it all has to come off!
I’m the same as you Ann-Marie; I will not use cleansing cloths to remove my makeup and i also got these in the set released just before Christmas.
They do smell of roses and i thought they were infused with the rose oil, (which i love so much). Unlike yourself, i never bothered to read the ings. list. I am surprised!
Having used them, i still went over my skin with a toner to double check and low and behold, no signs of makeup anywhere.
I have to be honest though, i wouldn’t buy them unless i was going on holiday. They would be great in that scenario and at least, you know they actually do cleanse the skin thoroughly.
Have you tried out their new double cleanse by Caroline Hirons? Beautiful product. No fragrance and leaves the skin lovely. Again, very expensive for the amount of product, however; only a small amount required and; i only double cleanse twice a week.
Great review Ann-Marie. xx
Hi Mandy,
I agree, they work, but my skin would never feel ‘properly’ clean if I relied on only wipes.
Years ago, (pre kids) when my skin was going through a spotty patch, I followed a regime I read about in a magazine (might have been Company mag). I didn’t wash my face with soap and water for over a week, I just used cleanser and toner.
You know what? My skin cleared up almost instantly and my skin was never softer. The downside was that, as with the cloths, I never felt my face was clean, it was as if there was a film over it.
I probably will use Caroline’s Double Cleanse at some point. Is it OK to remove eye make up with though? I only use the Liz Earle cleanser on my eyes, it’s STILL the only cleanser that I can work right into my lashes without stinging.
Thanks for commenting Mandy, I appreciate it.

I only ever use bi phase cleansers for my eyes
The double cleanse is fragrance free though.
Hi there! Thanks for sharing this review! This brand recently just popped up in my local drugstore and I was curious about it. I don’t use makeup wipes too often, but the next time I travel I think I will buy some these to try them out!
Hi there,
It’s a well loved brand with some cult products we love here in the UK.
I can recommend Pixi’s Glow Tonic, a gentle exfoliating toner.
Also, the Shea Butter Lip Balm
