REVIEW: Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

REVIEW: Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

Oh lovely and innovative Korean skin care and cosmetics, how I want to try you all! Actually, I am pushing for South Korea for our family holiday this year. Mark and the boys can soak up the culture and the delicious cuisine, I’ll just hit every beauty store out there.

Until then, I’ll make do with buying online and enjoy my latest purchase, the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask. Once again, I did a cheeky cross-reference of Korean bloggers against a search of ‘top Korean beauty products’ and this mask came highly recommended.

It’s also Laneige’s best-selling product, although check out their website and tell me you don’t want everything on there – especially the Serum Drop Lip Tint #swoon

An intensive, overnight mask that gives skin a lively, well-rested appearance the next morning thanks to its Sleep-tox™ purifying effect.

Moisturises and revitalises skin as if you have had a good night’s sleep for 8 hours!

  • Hypoallergenic formula with no safety concerns.

Yes I agree, I was worried the mask would ‘melt’ and seep into my eyes, but no, not at all and if it did, then apparently, it wouldn’t sting.

  • Relaxing aroma helps a good night’s sleep.

The mask does have a noticeable, but very pleasant gentle spa fragrance, but I certainly wouldn’t say that the aroma lingers, or even helps you to relax.

This is like a gel sealant for moisturisers, I have oily skin but my face got dry when I used it once its own. Just follow the instructions and moisturise first. It smells lovely and the packaging is neat. I’ll make it a staple product from now.

I LOVE this product. The texture is really quite difficult to describe – a bouncy, water gel sort of consistency. I spread a fairly thick layer all over my face, much thicker than I would my normal moisturiser. It takes a few minutes to “set” and feels slightly sticky, but it isn’t unpleasant. Although I can feel it on my face, it doesn’t smear all over my pillows, which is a bonus!

After using this, I wake up to skin that feels so smooth, supple and hydrated. I’ve been using this twice a week for 3 months or so and still have at least a month’s worth left, so it is good value for money and I will definitely repurchase once I’m out. The only drawback as far as I’m concerned is that it comes in jar packaging which isn’t great for preserving ingredients – I’d much prefer a tube (Agreed!).

I have dry skin and get very prominent sleep lines sometimes due to dehydration when I wake up in the morning. But with this product, no matter if I’ve had 8 hours of sleep or just 3, if I put this on before bed my face is guaranteed to be moisturised, supple and plump in the morning.

The opaque blue gel is packaged in a tub with a protective foil top inside. A little plastic spatula is included, so fingers don’t come directly into contact with the mask.

The gel is thick and sort of spongy, but not gloopy. It’s a dream to apply and smells delicious.

There’s some indulgent nonsense in the leaflet suggesting you inhale the soothing, supposedly sleep inducing fragrance before application. But the thing is, time passes as you’re waiting for the gel to absorb and dry a little before you even think of going to sleep, so it’s bit redundant because the scent fades quickly.

It has also been noted that a few people feel the fragrance could irritate sensitive skin, so that’s something to be aware of.

There wasn’t any trace of product on my pillow in the morning – hurrah!

When I washed it off, although it had completely absorbed during the night, my face was really soft – as if I’d slathered on a huge glob of ultra rich moisturiser before I went to bed. I was, and continue to be, very pleased with the results and it’ll be easy to keep up with this simple, twice weekly, routine.

I was interested to read the review above which said that the mask can be used to lock in moisturiser. I can see how this would work, so I’m going to try that next.

In a nutshell, I’d describe the mask as an overnight pick me up for parched skin.

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask 70ml – I bought mine on Amazon (UK) for £23.00.
