REVIEW Lancôme Juicy Shaker UPDATED

Lancome Juicy Shaker

I will not fall for this gimmick just because it looks cute. I will not fall for this gimmick just because it looks cute. I will not fall for this gimmick just because it looks cute.

Anyway, so I fell for this gimmick because it looks really cute –  Lancôme Juicy Shaker Lip Glosses, easily the most adorable packaging of a lip gloss ever, ever, ever!

There are loads of reviews about them all over the net, so I went to check out two shades that caught my eye online:

Mangoes Wild 381 (on the left in all photos) and Berry in Love 283.

Lancôme Juicy Shaker

These shades are utterly gorgeous – in the tube. I’m always on the lookout for a ‘watermelon red’ shade and Mangoes Wild fits the bill. It’s not at all orange, but because it’s so sheer, it does need a few repeat applications (the more you shake the tube, the stronger the pigment becomes) to build up the colour.

However, instead of staying true to the colour in the tube, as you wear it, it does tend to veer towards more of a cerise pink shade, less mangoe, more dark raspberry.

It then becomes a little too similar to Berry in Love, a mauve (teeth whitening), bluey toned pink. This also tends to ‘pink up’ as the day goes on despite reapplication which should be frequent, as longevity is weak.

There are 13 shades in all, plus a limited edition ‘blue’ toned one, Mint to Be, which would be an insane, money wasting purchase as it’s actually clear. I recommend swatching them in store, because the colour may look very different once applied, and some of the shades are very similar.

The glosses are pleasantly fruit flavoured which 13-year-old me used to love…

Shake to activate lip oil with pigment and apply to lips with the oversized soft cushion sponge applicator.

The spongy soft applicator is genius, and yes, you can easily reapply ‘on the go’ without the need for a mirror.

The gloss is very sheer, and not at all sticky. It does feel slightly wet at first, and for this reason, I apply it a smidge inside my lip line.

Applied over lipstick is probably the way to get your moneys worth out of them and will intensify your lipstick shade. The gloss isn’t vinyl shiny, but it’s enough to ‘pop’ your lipstick.

If both shades remained true to the deeply pigmented liquid colour in the bottle, then I’d be happy(ish) to pay £18.00.

For comparison, a similarly price product, MAC Plushglass  – £17.50, has 4.2ml of product and Juicy Shaker has 6.5ml of product.

The Juicy Shaker range has a lot of online fans, but breaking it down, Lancôme have just repackaged an oil/pigment lip gloss in a fun way.

I’m sure one of the cheaper brands will jump on the bandwagon and produce a similar, cheaper version before long.

UPDATE 11th May 2016

I’ve had to update this post for two reasons:

I’ve been using Berry in Love on top of my lipstick – either Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Monte Carlo, or Chanel Hydrabase in Escapade (discontinued, just paid £30 for what I think has to be the last one in existence), and TWO people have commented on how nice it is.

One was a women in the MAC queue and the other was a sales assistant on the Estée Lauder counter, who not only knew that it was a Juicy Shaker, but told me what shade it was! I know they get to trial everything, but that’s never happened to me before.

Check out the photo below. It’s been hard to capture, but the tiny blue/purple specks are actually glitter! It’s almost impossible to see in real life, but the sparkle is there. It’s not obvious on the lips, but I’m sure it contributes to the shiny/sheeny effect.

This sends me back to when their Juicy Tubes were all the rage!

Everyone had at least one didn’t they? I even bought the lip conditioning cream in the green tube.

Juicy Shaker is Lisa Eldridge’s homage to Juicy Tubes – see how everything comes back eventually?

I was going to say it’ll be Ultra Glow next, but apparently it’s still on sale!

It looks cute, and I am buying it based off of that alone! I know the struggle tho!

Ha! They know how to get us don’t they?
I forgot to say, they don’t leak in your bag!
