HOW IT WORKS
HOW TO USE
Apply to cleansed lashes using the wand provided (night time is recommended however you can apply at any time).
Take care to coat each lash from root to tip. Finish with mascara.
Instant Effects Lash and Brow Volumiser will not irritate, is safe to use if you wear contacts and does not stain the lid or drain the fat cells in the skin around the eye leaving that area more maroon in colour.
The plastic wand with its delicate, spiky bristles, reminds me of the Max Factor Masterpiece Max brush, although the bristles here are denser and finer. Like the Masterpiece brush (which I love), it coats every little hair, so you’re able to treat those fine inner hairs.
It works well as a mascara primer, the gel like serum is thin enough not to clump – unlike some primers I’ve used in the past, and the outer lashes in particular, plump up nicely. I can’t wear or even apply, false eyelashes, so I concentrate on the outer lashes and always load on a ton of mascara afterwards. Brush end lashes ‘up’ and ‘out’ to create the illusion of a slight lift, great for mature eyes which have a tendency to droop as we age.
I also know Instant Lash works in the long-term as a growth serum, because I did something very silly (for the second time in as many years), and snipped off a thick white eyebrow hair with a pair of curved manicure scissors, and just as before, the ‘curved part’ cut off a chunk of eyebrow.
Not only has the serum helped my lashes and eyebrows grow, although the new eyebrows are more white than blonde (old age – going to have to get them tinted for the first time in my life), but using the serum as a primer helped to fill in the big gaping space. You do need to wait a good five minutes to let the product work though, so I apply early on in my make up routine.
I was told by a helpful Chanel sales assistant (I bought the Chanel Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in shade Blonde Clair, an old reliable I highly recommend with a flattering blonde pencil one end and a great brush at the other, although truthfully, you don’t get much pencil for your money), that the correct way to cut long eyebrow hairs – is to brush them upwards with an eyelash comb and snip at the hairs, one by one. Then, brush them down, assess and comb them up again.
In my opinion, because I have used a few of them in the past, eyelash treatment serums DO work. The ingredients nourish and stimulate the follicles and as the hairs grow they feed off the rich nutrients and grow stronger – it’s the old ‘neglect a lawn and it won’t grow, feed it and it flourishes’ analogy.
What makes Instant Effects different is that not only does it work as a primer and treatment, it’s better value for money than other lash serums on the market. There’s a very generous 7ml of product for £24.99.
I received my tube for review on the 25th May and it’s still going strong with plenty of product on the wand each time. I’ve asked how long it’s expected to last and the answer was about 4 months.
Coat the lashes and brows quickly and put the wand back in the tube as fast as possible. Never pump the wand, because, as with mascara, trapped air will dry it out.
On me, Instant Effects volumised and thickened my lashes, as opposed to elongating them. There are lots of before and after photos on the official website and looking through them, this appears to be the case for the majority of people. A good mascara can lengthen – we want volume!
