‘Treasures of Youth’ is a unique collection of anti-aging skincare products from the Swiss premium cosmetics brand elline.

Not everyone can tolerate retinol, to address this, elline use a smart plant-based alternative called Vit-A-Like. An ingredient that has been clinically proven to stimulate collagen and elastin production in the same way as retinol, but without irritation.
I was sent their two of their best-selling products to trial – 24K Lifting Serum and the 24H Intensive Cream.

HOW TO USE

REVIEW
There’s a unique, award-winning twist in the design of the packaging. elline translates as ‘The Shining One’ and this theme of glowing skin carries through from the presentation to the products. With clever use of Light technology, the boxes ‘light up’ as you reveal their contents, the serum, in particular, is bathed in a golden light.
FRAGRANCE
The 24K Serum is fragrance-free, but the 24H Intensive Cream has the most delicious, heady aroma that starts floral and spicy with accords of red pepper and wisteria.
I spoke to Co-Founder and CEO of elline Switzerland, Firass Chamas about fragrance in skincare, because not everyone can tolerate it. He explained that their scent suppliers were asked to produce a fragrance to enhance the luxury experience during application, but without potent allergens that can irritate sensitive skin.
The result is a bespoke fragrance based on floral notes of wild jasmine mixed with red lily and a hint of red pepper, with accords of patchouli, sandalwood, and vanilla.
elline briefly switched to producing hand sanitizers for distribution to care homes during lockdown, but I wonder if they ever thought of creating a candle with this luscious fragrance? I’d buy it.
APPLICATION
I’m always wary of too much shine on my skin and the lifting serum is generously packed full of 24 gold karat flakes, but this time it actually worked in my favour. The gold crystals acted a pick-me-up and made my skin look instantly better, radiant without too much glow. Towards the end of the trial, I was able to go out without makeup wearing just the serum, cream, and sunscreen.
On the few days, I do wear makeup – when I absolutely have to, both the serum and the cream absorbed quickly and behaved well under foundation. What I found interesting was that you needed very little of the satin-like serum. If I had known it was going to last this long, I’d have worked out the price per wear.
I apply the serum, let it absorb, and then apply the rich cream, one pump is more than enough. Note – You can twist the top off the serum bottle to get to every last drop.
The instructions suggest 4 – 8 drops to cover the face, neck and chest area, but the serum and the cream actually, has very good slip i.e. a little goes a long way and the glass pipette slowly releases quite fat drops of serum so I was able to use only four to cover those areas.
I started to use the 5th drop on the back on my hands (again, don’t forget your sunscreen). I read about a 50 plus beauty editor who has THE youngest looking hands and she claims it’s because she always applies the last drop of her face serum/cream to her hands.
For the duration of the trial, I only used this serum and cream every morning and every other night for 10 weeks.
I kept the products away from my eyes and only applied lightly around the orbital bone.
Clinical studies have shown a 25% reduction in wrinkles, a 27% reduction in roughness, and a 15% increase in moisture levels after just 4 weeks of use.
RESULTS
The products have an instant effect, but more importantly, long-term results.
The first tangible results came after 5 weeks. There is a slight ‘bounce’ to my cheeks if you tap them you can feel a springiness which has been missing for a while.
The best results though were evident on the bottom half of my face, by the side of my mouth especially. Those aging ‘marionette’ lines (they’re the first thing I subconsciously look out for on myself and others) have finally started to soften.
I apply the serum in a gentle upwards sweeping motion from the corners of my mouth to the ears. The serum does absorb quickly so I work fast but try to not drag the skin, you must have a gentle touch. I was diligent and did this every day, morning and every other evening, it takes seconds.
You have a little longer to work with the cream. This time I used my fingers to apply it in big circles on my cheeks and small circles around my mouth – one of Facialist Abigail James’ face massage techniques. The gorgeous fragrance lingers on the skin and it’s a lovely way to kick start your day.
The skin texture around my mouth has really improved which I’m very pleased about as fine vertical lines on my upper lip are now a problem. Natural aging caused these as well as drinking through a straw because I didn’t want to spoil my lipstick. If you do that, stop it right now!
I put the improvement down to the cream in particular, and those tiny fingertip massage circles, I’m driving moisture into those lines.
CONCLUSION
The combination of premium skincare ingredients and light facial massage improved my marionette lines and restored bounce into my cheeks.
Each product in the line works on its own merits but for me, combining the serum and the cream meant my skin felt moisturised, hydrated, and nourished.
My skin is of course, mature, but it’s never too early to create an anti-aging routine with powerful, proven skincare.
