REVIEW: Clarins Super Restorative Treatment Essence

Clarins Super Restorative Treatment Essence

A ‘treatment essence’ is not a product I’d normally consider buying. It’s yet another layer of skin care to add to your regimen and also, how do you really know if it works?

I saved up a few Clarins samples to take away with me on holiday, and I had four tiny bottles of this lotion.

CLARINS SUPER RESTORATIVE TREATMENT ESSENCE

A quick pick-me-up for tired skin weakened by the natural ageing process, this energising anti-aging lotion—with gently exfoliating Hibiscus Flower acids and replenishing Harungana extract—visibly smoothes, refines pores, softens skin and revives radiance.

This anti-ageing lotion with an active, refreshing and rich texture absorbs perfectly into the skin and prepares it for application of creams to follow.

HOW TO USE
Apply to your skin every morning and evening after cleansing and before the use of a serum.

REVIEW

To be honest, I actually used this lotion as a make up remover (obviously not on my eyes) because the ESPA bag with all my essentials, was arriving with my luggage a day later.

I used quite a lot the first time, just under half of the little sample bottle, because I was too shattered to cleanse my face properly so I thought this would do the trick instead – which it did.

Now a regular user, I apply this with a cotton wool pad. I understand that using my fingers is more economical, because some product is absorbed by the pad, but the runny peach toned gel/lotion hybrid feels very cold to the touch, so it was nicer experience to apply via a pad. Although, if you check out my ‘sting in the tale’ section below, that’s going to change!

My make up came off easily and my skin felt fresh and hydrated afterwards.

The next morning, and I hadn’t put anything else on top, my skin felt really soft and smooth. I had a shower and used it again after cleansing as directed. I put on my make up, over Bobbi Brown’s Vitamin Enriched Face Base (highly recommended) and my foundation seemed to go on more smoothly.

I used the essence every day for the rest of the holiday (my mum had a few applications too). There was a tangible difference to the texture of my skin. When a product makes a difference almost immediately, you take note.

I’m now reading up more about this line of products, I haven’t tried anything from the Super Restorative range, I was testing so many other things that even the much-loved Double Serum, and I have a fair few samples, passed me by.

Here’s what people have been saying about the essence.

This product has made a difference to my skin from the first application. My skin is much smoother and feels better. I use very little morning and evening under a serum and moisturiser, but have already bought more as Clarins often stop offering their best products.

I’m a new user but my skin has never been so radiant. I have taken great care of my skin for years and used many a product but this entire line is a gem. I use the entire restorative line and the double serum which is amazing.

My skin really “perked up” after using this product and I was told that I was looking very well after using it for a few days. This feels lovely on my face, so smooth and soft and helps the skin to “glow”.

I have used it for about 4 days, morning and night, and my naso-labial folds have significantly diminished, my pores are less noticeable, and my makeup stays on longer and remains fresh throughout the day! I use it as directed, but use my fingertips rather than a cotton pad, so that there is no wastage.

Obviously, I had to rush out and buy a full-sized bottle – two actually, my mum was like, I MUST HAVE THIS! But I was shocked by how expensive it was – £40.50 from John Lewis. I checked and it was that price all over the net.

But I sucked it up and bought two. This is the screen shot of my purchase on 2nd September. I take screen shots of everything I order, or am looking to buy on the net, it really helps later on if there’s any kind of dispute – best tip ever by the way!

STING IN THE TALE

When I was prepping this post a couple of days ago, I looked up the price again to see if I could find it any cheaper, and it’s now £45.00 everywhere. I can’t remember if there was originally a John Lewis promotion for Clarins, but I find £45.00 very steep.

However, I checked again just now (and I mean a few seconds ago) and AllBeauty have it on sale for £36.50 (17/9/18). It definitely wasn’t that price yesterday.

CONCLUSION

This is a fabulous product I now think of as an essential. But, even at £36.50, it’s still a lot of money. If you can get your hand on at least two samples (easier said than done I know) then try it for yourself, I think you’ll be a convert.

      Hiya,

Yes, that’s right. This is your first layer after cleansing in the morning and the evening. It’s not sticky, it takes seconds to dry and it just feels like a very cold toner.
