I love a glossy lip. I have a few gorgeous matte lipsticks, but I will always, ALWAYS top them with a slick of gloss, clear or tinted – but usually tinted.
Matte lips have never suited me. Unless you have a generous pout, I think they’re hard look to pull off and can make thin (or older), lips looks even thinner. Gloss helps to create the illusion of depth, but it wears off quickly and needs constant reapplying.
I’ve always said on this blog that out of all her cosmetics, Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks offer the best value for money. Long-lasting, strongly pigmented and non drying on the lips – even the Matte Revolution ones.
I was advised by a dedicated fan (who has every lipstick and gloss, so she would know) that the lip glosses tended to be sticky and a bit thin with a weak colour payoff, so I’d always given them a wide berth. When I saw the Superstar Lips range though, proper glossy lipsticks, I thought I’d dip my toe in the water and purchase Pillow Talk.
WHAT MAKES SUPERSTAR LIPS MAGIC:
- Polymers create a soft, silky-feeling film to enhance wear, imparting a luscious, shiny finish.
- Emollient Oil has brilliant spreading properties with a rich feel that leaves your lips with a heavy gloss.
- Magic Diamond Powder for sparkling photo luminescence.
- Waxes that add a soft, cushiony feel to your lips.
- Hyaluronic acid which is used to help hydrate skin due to its high water holding capacity.
- Peptides that help to maintain the youthful appearance of skin.
Let me get two negatives out-of-the-way first:
LIMITED EDITION
This pains me so much, they’re £24.00 each and out of the 6 shades (see below), only one, Confident Lips – a shiny blackcurrant that will look particularly stunning on darker skin tones, doesn’t suit me. I swatched the shades in store, then bought online, because I got an extra 5 samples, plus points with Avios. I have two now, but my eye is on the other three, and I feel pressurised because of the Limited Edition tag.
If you’re an eBay seller, you could do worse than buy up a bunch to sell at a later date when (or if) they’ve been discontinued. Sexy Lips has already been out of stock twice at Fenwick.
THE PACKAGING
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the lipstick case is a bit ropey! I’ve not seen anyone online complain about this, but it’s definitely flimsy and very lightweight. I’m really surprised, I would’ve expected it to be weighted at one end. It’s so light, I’ve actually dropped it a couple of times.
All that said, this is the gloss lipstick I’ve been waiting for.
Superstar Lips in Pillow Talk is the best-selling iconic dreamy nude pink lipstick in a brand new texture! Combining the high shine of a gloss and the staying power of a lipstick, this innovative, cushiony texture glides onto your lips with a creamy feel. With a luminous, rich glossy finish to create ultra-defined, fuller-looking lips instantly, this limited edition lipstick is a must-have this holiday season.
I knew I wanted this as soon as I saw it. I love Pillow Talk (review here) but always apply a little lip gloss on top.
This is a richer shade of Pillow Talk, it’s beautifully pigmented as you’d expect, the gloss finish is flattering and long-wearing. You can also build it up for even stronger colour, but I think one application will nail it.
Also, the swatch on the official site is spot on – which is a nice surprise, especially if you can’t hit the shops. These are going to sell out fast.
Not usually a fan of bluey berry shades, I also HAD to buy this one after testing it.
Superstar Lips in Wild Lips is the new berry pink lipstick shade, wild by name and wild by nature! Combining the high shine of a gloss and the staying power of a lipstick, this innovative, cushiony, texture glides onto your lips with a creamy feel. With a luminous, rich glossy finish to create smoother, fuller-looking lips instantly, this limited edition lipstick is the perfect naughty shade for Christmas parties!
Again, the site swatch is on the money. This shade has a real punch to it and it’s very pretty. I’m pale skinned, but this is really flattering. Although I would suggest getting a teeth clean and polish if you’re due for one, because this shade will slightly yellow less than white teeth.
I might buy just one more shade…
