REVIEW BEAUTY PIE UBER YOUTH SHEET MASK

BEAUTY PIE

I have a love/hate relationship with Beauty Pie. I enjoy using the beauty subscription service (click on the image below to see how it works) but it’s not perfect. I’ve discovered new products I repeat buy, namely Super Retinol Anti-Ageing Hand Treatment and the Night Renewal Moisturiser, but I’m also sitting on the fence with other products.

Super Healthy Skin Sheer Tinted Oil-Free BB Cream is NOT a substitute for Liz Earle’s Sheer Skin Tint however much I willed it to be. The shade I bought, Fair, is too light and looks very mask-like on me. But, my next order will include a darker shade (Medium) so I’ll blend the two and see if magic happens.

Strangely, as the shades deepen the price rises, ie £6.86 for the Fairest shade, up to £10.79 for the darkest Deep shade. It’s still extremely reasonable for a BB cream, but I’ve never heard of an increase because of darker pigment. Odd, yes?

BEAUTY PIE SUPER HEALTHY SKIN™ SHEER TINTED OIL-FREE SPF20

I’ve also bought a few duds – Uber Youth Sheet Masks (review below) and the Hyaluronic Acid Microneedle patches. I’m certain these patches were supposed to be a ‘clone’ of Radara Eye Patches which I’ve previously reviewed and absolutely loved. Unfortunately for me, the Beauty Pie ones pulled at the skin around my eyes (the last thing you want on that delicate area) when I tried to remove them because the superglue like adhesive was too strong. I naturally complained and asked for a refund.

This was their (cold-hearted) reply

I’m sorry to hear that one of our products wasn’t quite right for you on this occasion, please be assured I will ensure to pass your valued feedback onto our Product Experts for consideration. Please be advised that we’ve made the commercial decision to discontinue this product which is why it is no longer appearing on our website.

I’m afraid we are only able to issue a refund on products that are either damaged, faulty or unopened. Due to safety and hygiene restrictions, only unopened items that are in the same condition that you received them can be returned. Customers who return products that are not in a hygienic or resalable condition, or return products without prior authorization, will not be credited, and the returned items may be discarded. BEAUTY PIE has no liability to you in this regard, for refunds or otherwise, for returns of this kind. Please see the BEAUTY PIE Terms & Conditions for the full details.

In circumstances such as this, as the products were not suitable due to personal preference but have now been used we would be unable to issue a refund. I apologise if this news is disappointing for you to read, however on this occasion and a gesture of goodwill I’ve added an extra £50 worth of ‘spending limit’ to your account.

I took the £50.00 ‘allowance’ after much grumbling, the patches cost £24.95. To my mind, the patches were faulty and I tried to argue that point, but Beauty Pie stood firm. Also, the fact that they were suddenly discontinued meant that other people must have complained about them as well. Lesson – ALWAYS READ THE SMALL PRINT!

REVIEW

Let me start off by saying that the reviews are nearly all overwhelmingly positive. I do trust the reviews on Beauty Pie, because you have to be a member to leave a review and jump through a few hoops before submitting, so I do rely on them.

My experience, however, wasn’t so great.

The mask is chillingly cold. If only I had one of these during that heatwave a few years ago, I’d have slept like a baby during those sticky nights.

It was also very wet, as in dripping all over the sink, wet. On the plus side, there’s enough of the thin, gel-like serum left in the packet for another generous application – two for the price of one, certainly.

The reviews – even the lone, one-star one, said the mask was a good fit, but I found it awful. The mask is made in South Korea and I wonder if it was made for the dainty faced Korean market because I found the mask far too small – or maybe I’ve got a giant moon head? It barely went under my chin (we’re talking a centimetre at best) or reached the sides of my face and the eyeholes were tiny and too close together. Serum kept dripping into my eyes, it was cold and uncomfortable. A facemask should be a relaxing treat.

I left it on for 30-40 minutes. The mask doesn’t stay moist, it gradually dries. There’s a slight tingling sensation afterward, my skin felt strangely cold and clammy for a good 10 minutes. I didn’t see any improvement and I would usually expect something instant with a face mask. No brightening, no glow, or visible pore-minimizing (that’s not even a thing), or firming – nada. I will try another one next week but only because there are 5 in a pack, but for me, it was a disappointment that didn’t live up to all the great reviews.

OH, ANOTHER THING

Because of the pandemic prices have gone up (another reason to stock up now on products you regularly use), and I appreciate that companies are being charged more by wholesalers and I know we have to keep the economy afloat, but I’ve seen some insane price hikes and some very greedy retailers.

I’m even thinking of reporting a chiropodist who serves mainly elderly clientele, for selling disposable paper face masks for £5 each and a £1.10 bottle of surgical spirit for £10.00. Beauty Pie isn’t, I hope, overly greedy, but they have increased all their prices and the face masks (not that I’ll be buying them again) have shot up by £5.00 in 6 months.

Beauty Pie Order November 2019

Beauty Pie Order
New Price – Increase of £5.03
ÜBER YOUTH™ HYALURONIC SHEET MASK

IN FAIRNESS

On the other hand, Beauty Pie reduced the monthly subscription to 1 penny during lockdown, so for 2 months, I paid 1p instead of £5.00 for my subscription, which was decent of them.

It’s all yin and yang with Beauty Pie, they giveth and they taketh away again. I bet the subscription price will go up.

I HAVE MY EYE ON…

This is the problem with Beauty Pie, they keep bringing out products I really, really need.
