If ever a product was tailor-made for me (in both senses of the word), then it’s this one.
Beautonomy is a London based indie beauty brand. They specialise in highly pigmented single eyeshadows which are cruelty-free, paraben-free, and predominantly vegan.
However, their main product is a customisable eyeshadow palette.
Pick from over 50 shades of our perfectly formulated high pigment, creamy eyeshadows.
Once you’ve got your perfect colour story, then get creative by designing your own packaging and naming your shades.
I was given the chance to create my own palette and spent a couple of fun days (although I think most people would have got this done in 20 minutes), uploading the perfect photograph, choosing the eyeshadows, and naming the shades – Oh OK, four days then.
I toyed with naming the eyeshadows after the cast of Grease – Danny, Sandy, Kenickie, Rizzo, Frenchy, etc and having the Greased Lightnin’ car on the front cover (Kenickie, you were always my favourite).
Then I went through the guys’ names in 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover, but there were only five of them. Eventually, I ended up with the one below which ties in nicely with the blog, and one of my favourite songs. I was especially pleased to see ‘Toker’ slide through.
The possibilities for customisation are endless. I’ve seen examples of palettes from brides to bridesmaids with special shade names, heartfelt messages for loved ones, best friend ones, boy band themed ones, wherever your fancy takes you. You can imagine how enjoyable it would be to put together a Christmas one. It’s a thoughtful, personal present that shows you’ve put effort into it and all for a reasonable price.
This is the gorgeous result.
People of a ‘certain age’ might just recognise the shade names…
Here they are alongside their ‘real’ names.
- Joker – Mithai
- Smoker – Gingerbread
- Midnight – Sunbeam
- Toker – Rosso
- Grinner – Blonde
- Winner – Brown
- Lover – Clay
- Sinner – Dessy
A look at Beautonomy’s Twitter #beautonomy and Instagram – beautonomyofficial superbly illustrates just how pigmented these Italian made eyeshadows are. I’m always amazed by people’s creativity, there are some very impressive examples of eye makeup using the custom shades.
The shadows blend beautifully and there’s no fallout, even from the shimmer shades. You can choose from Metallic, Satin, Duo Chrome, Glitter, Matte, and Shimmer.
Other younger bloggers chose bright colours – lots of reds, yellows and oranges, but my days of red eyeshadow (oh, the wonderful 80s) are long gone and I wanted autumnal shades I would actually wear.
Now though, I’m going to create and buy a palette with shimmering gold and pink shades and another one with a range of caramels.
My (new) favourite shades are:
- Leo
- Season
- Boujie
- Ay Caramba!
- Cents
- Extra
- Whoa!
- Relic (Highlighter)
- Turkish Delight (Highlighter)
Beautonomy also sell standalone blushers, bronzers and highlighters for £3.00.
I love Indie beauty companies. Because they’re so small, they always go that little bit further to bring something playful and different to consumers. They also keep a tight reign on the price and take notice of customer feedback to improve their product, something the ‘big boys’ should take note of.
