REVIEW: BABOR HSR Lifting Extra Firming Cream

BABOR HSR Lifting Extra Firming Cream

BABOR is Germany’s number one professional luxury skin care brand established in 1956 by Dr. Michael Babor. With the emphasis on research and development, Babor’s scientists have developed unique active ingredient complexes and award-winning innovations in the skin care industry.

I have been trialling their best-selling anti-wrinkle treatment cream, HSR (High Skin Refiner) Lifting Extra Firming Cream, part of the HSR® lifting collection that also includes an eye and hand cream, a face mask and incredibly, an even richer version of this cream.

This specially formulated treatment cream improves and strengthens elasticity aiding in the delay of light-induced aging. It activates collagen and elastin synthesis and optimises the build up of collagen.

It also strengthens the skin’s natural defense mechanisms and helps prevent fine lines and wrinkles, leaving the skin looking more youthful.

Five highly effective active ingredients are combined in the HSR Lifting Integral Complex to create an all-round anti-wrinkle effect:

  • Multitendyn Plus: Extracts of soybeans, peas and millet in combination with tannic acid, reduce wrinkles, strengthen tissue and smooth the surface of the skin.
  • Lupinus: Lupine extracts improve the elasticity of the skin and redefine facial contours.
  • Carnosin: The amino acid L-carnosine reduces the formation of wrinkles caused by glycation.
  • Relaxo Peptide: Oligopeptides from hibiscus seeds have a “botox-like” effect and reduce expression lines by reducing muscle contractions.
  • Neuro-Receptor Peptide: Hexapeptide-47 reduces fine lines and wrinkles caused by dry skin and ensures a smoother appearance by reducing transepidermal water loss.

This holistic lifting effect visibly and continuously reduces fine lines and wrinkles, giving the skin a smoother appearance and firming facial contours.

Apply to face, neck and décolleté, morning and evening after cleansing.

Before I even talk about the cream, this is easily the most luxurious and glamorous packaging I’ve ever seen.  The velvety cream is housed in a gold embossed heavy glass jar – gorgeous!

The cream itself has a ‘luxury spa’ fragrance. It is incredibly rich, I’ve been trialling it for 5 weeks and I’ve barely used any of it.

Unusually, for a such a thick cream, it doesn’t leave skin at all greasy. I applied a tin layer under my foundation a couple of times and it behaved itself very nicely and I wasn’t left with a shiny face.

Because it is a lifting cream, I apply it in a specific way and have adapted this face massage technique by Su-Man, the world-renowned facialist with a huge celebrity following:

With elbows rested on a table, massage the face with moisturiser starting from the chin with the heels of both palms round-up to the base of the ear line 36 times.

I use just my thumbs instead of my palms. The richness of the cream means it has enough ‘slip’ to glide along the jaw line.

Su-Man recommends each massage stroke is repeated 36 times in accordance to the ancient Chinese belief that the number six is lucky and helps lead the individual to a perfect state of health and happiness.

I follow this suggestion to the letter and always repeat each stroke 36 times. I do this morning and evening and it takes just a couple of minutes.

With any face massage, and even when you’re applying serum and moisturisers, always work in gentle upward strokes, we’re fighting gravity here. Keep up a regular routine and eventually those underlying slack muscles will get the message!

After my 3D SkinLift treatment, I’m desperate to hold onto the results (and see even more improvement) along my jaw line. So far, my jaw line is responding to the cream and it feels firm to the touch.
