The Marks & Spencer Christmas Beauty Advent Calendar has landed! It costs £35 when you spend £35 on beauty, clothing and home.
This was bought for me last year – a happy accident, Mark just threw it into the basket because the boys had chocolate calendars, but I absolutely loved it (review here) and looked forward to opening a new box each morning.
Only a few duds made it incredible value last year, but if you want to see what you’re getting this year, then I know Angela, aka Beauty by the Bunny has a video review on her site, (beware, she’s brutally honest), I’m avoiding it because I want to be genuinely surprised.
One thing I would point out, is that some people last year said the content was aimed towards slightly older women – fine for me, maybe not such a great buy for teenagers.
I can’t wait for Mark to hit M&S tonight in case it sells out after everyone raved about last year, so I’ve just bought it myself – WHICH IS NOT THE SAME!
M&S Christmas Beauty Advent Calendar
It might be because I bought it myself (I should’ve waited an extra day, because they were still in stock), but I’m not as excited by this calendar as I was by last year’s one.
I also think that (once again), they’ve not thought about the ‘sameness’ of products on consecutive days. The first five or six products were all in tube form. I’m happy enough with them and opening a mini bottle of Alpha H Rose Gold pleased me no end.
I didn’t forget about the Charlotte Tilbury one, but I’d spotted one too many reviews by bloggers with the contents on display (bit annoying, don’t do that ladies), so I roughly knew what was in it which killed it a bit for me.
I got Mark to buy me other bits and the ‘Dreamy Look in a Clutch’ as my ‘advent calendar’ instead and actually, I don’t like it much.
The eyeshadow palette feels very small and a bit cheap. My fault really, because I didn’t realise that with exception of the lipstick, everything is mini sized. The shades are very shimmery and I only like two of them. The mini lip liner in Bitten Kiss is quite nice, but I have no use for the black mascara and eye pencil which I’ll pass on.
Back to the drawing board for next year!
