How face shapes age
Face shape can determine how we will age. Loss of facial fat, thinning skin on the neck area, the emergence of jowls and drooping or hooded eyes, can often be more prevalent in certain face shapes than others.

Knowing your potential problem areas is a good starting point for your anti-ageing skin care regimen and will enable you to target these areas first.

This face shape is the one that appears to age the best. Beware though, of skin on the neck becoming loose and early signs of droopiness along that lovely strong jaw line.

This is my face shape and I can only agree that when cheeks lose their plumpness, the face can definitely appear gaunt. This is now the time to perform regular face massages using upward and outward strokes.

The watch point here is the lower face, with a strong tendency towards gauntness. A slim face becomes even thinner with age and skin on the neck begins to lose elasticity.

Jowls too can become very pronounced. Sagging jowls affect nearly all of us as we age, so I’ll be doing a ‘War on Jowls’ series this year – throwing everything I’ve got at this pesky ageing problem.

Ageing on a heart face shape appears to centre itself on the upper half of the face. Forehead and temples can droop, eyelids may become hooded.

This little exercise may help if you do it regularly. It’s very similar to prepping for a perfect photo. Place your index and middle fingers under your eyebrows, push them up gently and then try to close your eyes. This helps strengthen the upper eyelid muscle.

CACI Microlift does much the same thing (in less time), using an electronic pulse to train the eyelid muscle. I recall going around with an arched ‘Kylie eyebrow’ for a week when I was testing it out.

Upper and lower face problems with what many consider to be the ideal face shape. Similar in ageing to long and round faces, cheeks can become gaunt looking. Crow’s feet seem to be a particular concern, so eye care is especially important.
