Pixi Sheer Cheek Gel UPDATE

 Pixi Sheer Cheek Gel

I’ve only been using this cult-favourite gel blush for a week, so this is very much a ‘first thoughts’ review. The jury is definitely out on this one.

This sheer, translucent gel creates a super natural flush of colour. Applies easily with fingers for a fresh and healthy burst of colour on cheeks and lips.

  • Oil free, moisturising and skin-conditioning
  • Aloe vera to soothe and heal stressed skin

Blend a small amount into the apples of the cheeks.
Use a sweeping movement rather than rubbing.
Layer under cheek powder or bronzer to extend wear without having to touch up.

This is the BEST blush I have found yet and I’ve gone through MANY. It REALLY lasts ALL DAY. Sometimes when i go to wash my face at night I’m just shocked that my cheeks are still glowing with this colour.

I love this cheek gel! It gives a beautiful natural just pinched look to your cheeks. The color is light but the coverage is build-able! I love the feel of the formula, unlike other cheek gels this is not too oily and it is very easy to use.

I bought this in the color natural. It is much lighter than it looks in the tube, so light skin girls do not fear! I am very fair, and this is very natural on me.

Long lasting natural tint with better coverage then my similar Benefit product. I have recommended this to all my friends.

I bought this gel blusher when Marks & Spencer ran a ‘20% off’ flash sale’ promotion last week and I’m not entirely sure I like it. It is a gorgeous blush and I can see how it’s gained cult status, but I think, I’m a little, *whisper it* too old for this product.

The shade I bought, Natural, is true to its description and is indeed, a very natural looking, soft, warm pink.

The problem is that the gel has too much ‘slip’ ie the texture spreads out very easily and I end up working it in a big circle – much like Petra does (at 4.42) in this ‘How To’ video.

Unfortunately, on my mature skin it just looks like I’m having a particularly intense hot flush, and that’s the last thing I want.

On young skin though, this cheek gel would be beautiful, not so much the Natural shade (too subtle), but definitely the other shades; Rosy is a bright berry-rose, I can see this working on very pale skin and tanned skin. The more dramatic Flushed is a deep, vibrant red, which would be stunning on darker skin tones.

I’ve tried to ‘dot’ it on, but the colour is so light and sheer, it almost disappears. I have to build it in thin layers, but then it ends up with me looking like I’ve been badly sunburnt.

The cream blusher I normally use is Becca Beach Tint in Watermelon. Lisa Eldridge actually recommends this blusher for mature skin, although I’ve been a fan since it was included in one of the first Glossyboxes.

Beach Tint is a highly pigmented cheek stain without any slip at all. This means that you have to work fast to blend out the tiniest dot of colour. The payoff is that application is precise and because it’s a stain, the colour (and there are 8 very different shades) lasts all day.

Becca Beach Tint

I will keep going with Sheer Cheek Gel, but perhaps I need to change the application method and instead of using fingers, apply it with a brush in a dabbing motion? I’ll get back to you.

Becca Beach Tint £20.00 for a mere 7ml Space NK, but you only need a tiny dot of product.

UPDATE: 28th June 2016

As a blusher, I find Pixi Sheer Cheek Gel is just too sheer. It’s hard to control placement and I end up looking really flushed.

However, I’ve come up with something that’s a little bit genius. I mix a few blobs of the blusher with either tinted fake tan or a dab of foundation and (quickly) apply it where I would normally ‘catch’ the sun.

A natural tan has a lot of red in it and the hint of deep pink mixed with fake tan really does make me look as if I’ve been in the sun.  It works really well on the chest area.

I even put some on my forearms and indeed, someone actually said that it looked like I’d enjoyed the recent sunny weather and I was delighted, I’m as white as a sheet!

This would also work with any non shimmer gel blusher.  It’s not a cheap product, but I’m pleased I’ve found a way to make it work for me and make it earn its keep.
