With all the months of preparation and the best stylists, hair and make-up artists at their disposal, it still surprises me how some celebrities get it so wrong on awards night. Here’s a selection of the best dresses – not many, and the worst – lots!
From left to right:
- Sienna Guillory in olive-green. Not overly wild about the style, but the colour is stunning on red heads and flattering on Sienna.
- Kara Tointon in Julien Macdonald. Glamorous but delicate, with a 30s vibe and I love the way the gown pools on the floor.
- Some unknown (probably a reality tv ‘star’) in a monstrous dress with ‘nasty and cheap’ written all over it. No gold star for you mystery mess.
- Kim KW in one of Liberace’s old dressing gowns, complete with comedy breasts. Love her hair and make-up though.
- Rihanna in a dress she wore for a bet (surely?)
- Giuliana Rancic in denial. She looks terribly thin to us, but she’s obviously happy in her skin
and bones. It’s not right (or fair) to skinny-shame, because no doubt, people close to her have tried to talk to her. The very fact that she looks so pleased with herself and has chosen such a close-fitting gown demonstrates that SHE is fine with her body shape.

SOPHISTICATED BLACK IS BACK!
Sometimes you don’t have to put it all on display.
From left to right:
- Monica Belluci, 50
- Rosamund Pike, 36
- Nicole Kidman, 47
- Rene Russo, 60
- Kristin Scott Thomas, 54

THESE GOWNS SHOULDN’T WORK, BUT THEY DO.
From left to right:
- Julianne Moore in Tom Ford. I know she’s rocking the ‘extreme cleavage’ trend, but because she hasn’t got a huge, artificially inflated chest, it doesn’t look tacky. The choker part of the dress is a really clever touch, not only does hold the top part together to stop it gaping, it also draws your eye upwards.
- Laura Haddock in Ashli Couture. This shouldn’t work, the gown is the colour of unwashed net curtains and the neckline’s slashed to the waist. But Laura’s subtle make-up and simple hairstyle oozes cool sophistication.
- Léa Seydoux in Prada. Yellow is gorgeous on blondes. The pleating is sublime on this ‘old Hollywood’ style gown. Her hair, with a modern nod to the 40s is spot on too.

LOOK, I’M NOT BEING BITCHY, BUT…

♥
THE LOOK MADONNA WAS AIMING FOR, HOW SHE REALLY LOOKED, WHAT WE SAW.
But, to be fair, her jaw line is superb – firm and taut. Her skin is flawless and her neck isn’t all crepey and sinewy as it has been in the past.
Plus she got her 56-year-old arse out and splashed across the media, so I’m assuming the night was a win in her eyes.

LET’S NOT FORGET THE MEN!
Behold, Kasabian! Don’t laugh, this is One Direction 20 years down the line.
Great post! Guilliana looks so ill at the moment.
I know, she looked bad last year too. She can’t see what we see, otherwise she wouldn’t have chosen a dress that emphasises her tiny frame.
Time Bill checked her into rehab
