I’ve wanted to try the Redken Diamond Oil range for ages. My hair – even though it grows fast, only looks good for a couple of weeks before it turns rogue on me ie dry, flyaway, difficult to manage. This is a new thing (about the last 6-8 months) and I can only put it down to menopause – the gift that keeps on giving.
Eventually brands will realise that us 50+ year olds want to have shiny, healthy looking hair too. Redken’s Diamond Oil Glow Dry isn’t marketed specifically to older women, but what it does – brings shine and a feeling of lightness to dull, dry hair is what our hair craves. We’ve been styling and dyeing our hair for over 30 years, add the menopause to the mix and no wonder our hair becomes dull and lacks shine.
I asked to review the 3 step Glow Dry range. Buff, Glow and Gloss.

REDKEN DIAMOND OIL GLOW DRY GLOSS SCRUB 150ml £11.00
Treat dull, lack-lustre hair with Redken’s Diamond Oil Glow Dry Gloss Scrub; a unique pre-shampoo treatment dedicated to exfoliating, detangling and polishing strands from root to tip.
Apply before shampoo to wet hair. Rub in from mid-lengths to ends. Use 2-3 times a week or as needed.
My joint favourite product. This hair scrub contains argan shells and produces just enough texture to cleanse hair of product build up and gently stimulate the scalp. The two things older hair really needs helps with – younger hair too of course!
It’s very gentle, doesn’t feel abrasive and there’s no residue on the scalp afterwards.

REDKEN DIAMOND OIL GLOW DRY SHAMPOO 300ml £9.40
Add mirror-like shine to your locks with the Redken Diamond Oil Glow Dry Shampoo; a lightweight, radiance-renewing formula that works to cleanse and revitalise.
I do like this, it’s a lightweight shampoo which smells divine and rinses out cleanly, and hair is lighter afterwards, but I don’t think it’s essential.
REDKEN DIAMOND OIL GLOW DRY CONDITIONER 250ml £10.40
Restore luminous, glossy locks with the Redken Diamond Oil Glow Dry Conditioner; a replenishing, revitalising formula that works to detangle and hydrate hair.
Now this, I couldn’t get on with, but I think that’s just my mindset. Yes, I liked the end result (as with the shampoo, hair feels light and soft), but it’s a clear conditioner. I like my conditioners to be creamy, to transform the texture of my hair when I’m rinsing it out. It’s a bit like that fad last year, using conditioner before shampoo. Lots of people swear by it, but it didn’t feel right for me.

REDKEN DIAMOND OIL GLOW DRY STYLE ENHANCING OIL 100ml £20.80
A blend of lightweight formulas scrub, gloss and de-tangle blow-dry-addicted hair. The result is a super shiny blow-dry every time.
Apply on damp hair concentrating on mid-lengths and ends. Blow-dry. Reapply on dry hair as needed for added shine.
My other favourite. How could I not love this gorgeous smelling oil? This will transform hard to manage, dull hair, into light and airy hair. It speeds up blow drying time (although I’m not sure how) and hair is swishy and shiny once more.
If I had a tiny gripe, it’s the huge glass bottle. It looks so glam, but can be slippy to hold. Also, I would love to re-apply it during the day, especially if it’s been raining, but it’s not transport friendly at all, and I’ve never found a plastic travel bottle that doesn’t leak.
Value wise though, that 100ml is going to last forever.
The star players are the scrub and the gloss. I consider the scrub essential to prevent hair build up and the gloss, to smooth and shine, without being greasy or weighing hair down.
