REPOST: Keep Cool at Night

COOL MENOPAUSE

7th July 2018. Time to dust off this post again.

This weather is no fun at night. Remember when you’d go on holiday, particularly somewhere hot, and get off the plane and walk into a rippling wall of heat? This is currently what it feels like in the UK.

However, there is a solution. Read on and keep your cool.

The downside to the current heat wave in the UK is that the nights are swelteringly hot and sticky.

This isn’t the most elegant solution, but it does work. I first did this when I was suffering from night sweats and thought I was going to melt into the bed.

Here’s what to do:

  • Take one clean tea towel – one of those cotton ones used to dry glasses.
  • Rinse it in cold water.
  • Wring it out just enough so it doesn’t drip.
  • Lie down.
  • Place over lower legs.
  • And sleep!

I promise it will cool you down instantly.

A fluffy towel won’t work as it’s too heavy.

As an alternative, I did use two muslin cloths (you know, the Liz Earle ones), one on each leg, VERY cooling, but a bit faffy if you turn over or shift onto your side.

Sleep well!

UPDATE 27th June 2015

I’m doing this right now (with the fan on as well), and do you know what? I’m as cool and as comfortable as could be!

Update:19th July 2016

Still works!

Top tip! My legs get so fidgety in this heat!

      I know, me too!

I draped the muslin cloths over each foot last night and I was too cold!

Used this when I was sweltering in Rome in September 2013. Saved my sanity – thanks again!

      You’re welcome Julie.

I got married in Rome in October (1990!) and it was boiling hot, I wish I knew about this tip then!
