Highlighter killer – Dandruff shampoo

Highlighter killer - Dandruff shampoo

I’m going to tread carefully here because I don’t want to upset anyone so, I will cunningly disguise the name of the product I’m talking about and leave it to you to work it out.

This product is a well-known, bright blue dandruff shampoo. The brand run a particularly irritating ad featuring bloggers/vloggers I just don’t recognise, because I’m obviously far too old; one of them emits a high-pitched squeal when she sees how swishy and shiny her hair is after using said shampoo.

Yes, that’s right, I’m talking about Bed & Boulders.

Long story short – spent a week at my mum’s house, forgot to pack my shampoo and used JJ’s Bed & Boulders one instead, and indeed, after the first wash, my hair was swishy and shiny. *Cue annoying squeal of delight* (I hope she’s isn’t a famous blogger, or I’ll be in even more trouble).

But fast forward a mere two shampoos later and my buttery coloured highlights turned orange. I’m not kidding – BRASSY, FUGLY, KILL ME NOW, ORANGE!

TRUE STORY

One of my hairdressers from yonks ago, told me that if the salon ever ran out of perming solution (this was the 80s) they’d use Bed & Boulders instead because it was so potent. Although, leave it on for too long he said, and hair would snap clean off. At the time I thought it was a funny story to amuse me – but now I think, was there a grain of truth to this?

In fact, if you do a little research – because the net is always right isn’t it? You will see that this particular shampoo is notorious for fading hair colour! Great if you want to tone down a shade, not so good for highlighted hair. Lesson learned, sometimes those urban myths turn out to be the real thing!

Wash, lather and leave in for 5 minutes. Three shampoos in and my hair is almost de-orangified. Long term use is not recommended, it has sulphate in it and I think eventually it would dry out your hair. I know I’m going to have to suck it up and use a ‘proper’ shampoo at some point.

But for now, it does the job, my hair even has a little shine. *squeeeal*
