REVIEW: L’Oreal Professionnel Steampod 2.0

L'Oreal Professionnel Steampod 2.0

I had my eye on this ‘steampod’ straightener for ages. I don’t use my GHDs to straighten my hair all over, I feel poker straight hair is ageing on women over 50 unless hair is in superb condition. I think hair with some ‘movement’ suits everyone.

However, I have a kink on the back of head at the crown that just won’t be tamed. I’ve done the big rollers, the huge round barrel hairbrush and my beloved BaByliss Roller Brush, but nothing works as fast as a quick run through with the GHDs. The problem is knowing when to stop – you think, I’ll straighten that bit to even it up and then you’re sucked into a dangerous cycle of applying shedloads of moisture sapping heat to your hair.

Straightening hair with steam is not a new idea, I bought a similar device years ago, there was a little attachment on the top of the tongs which held the water and it worked quite well as I recall. I even bought steam hair rollers. I know all too well the dangers of heated hair appliances, plus the older your hair, the more heat abuse it’s suffered.

After reading lots of reviews and watching YouTube tutorials, I settled on the Steampod which looked easy enough to use. I waited for the price to drop and bought mine from Just My Look for £126.00 because they included a ‘freebie’ 150ml tube of ‘Smoothing Milk Fibre Replenishing’ cream (for fine hair), which isn’t strictly necessary, but I would’ve bought it anyway.

I’ve read about a ‘musty’ smell coming from the unit during use, which I haven’t experienced, but that might be because the cream has a strong fragrance – posh hairdressing salon mixed with almond/apricot. You need very little cream by the way, so that tube will last ages. There’s also a serum for ‘all types’ of hair.
