I first spoke about this primer in my review of Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick in Taupe – by the way, the most perfect non budge, crease shade.
I didn’t want to splash out £43.00 for a 50ml jar, so picked up the travel size 15ml version for £12.50. (£10.00 actually, combined with another offer). It works out at roughly the same price at the full-sized product; I think it’s a big deal you don’t have to pay a premium for a travel sized version, more companies need to follow this lead.
Oddly though, it’s a little tricky to find. On the official Bobbi Brown site, you have to select the ‘New’ tab and then hit ‘Travel Essentials’ from the drop down menu.
BOBBI BROWN VITAMIN ENRICHED FACE BASE
A Bobbi Brown bestseller – primer plus moisturisation for smooth makeup application (it’s the best of both worlds). Rich in feel, but never greasy, this advanced oil-free face formula, with Shea Butter, instantly hydrates, softens and cushions skin. Normal to oily skin types.
HOW TO USE
Smooth on clean skin for a plumped up, cushiony look and to create the perfect canvas for makeup.
The positive reviews are insane, although the latest one says it made their face shiny. I wonder if she didn’t let the product sink in for long enough? It’s not a primer/moisturiser hybrid you can whack on a second before foundation, let it settle in for at least 10 minutes.
The scent and texture remind me of a dense lemony/grapefruity posset, the sort of rich creamy dessert you can buy in Marks and Spencer. The pale yellow shade helps to (ever so slightly) counteract ruddiness. I haven’t seen evidence of ‘a cushiony look’ but my skin does feels hydrated after application.
It’s in a glass jar, so no fingers, use a spatula to scoop out a pea sized amount of cream, that’s more than enough. My skin’s very sensitive and I was worried that the ingredients and the strong scent would irritate it, but it doesn’t at all.
15ml doesn’t sound like much, I know whenever I’ve had a tube containing 15ml of product it never seems to last very long. Although, I wonder if this is because it’s easy to squeeze out too much? This appears to be lasting ages and I’ve been using it every morning since I bought it 5 weeks ago.
It does feel very slippery, almost oily, when first applied, and you think this is never going to end up as a matt finish – and actually it doesn’t. A reviewer said it ‘melts’ into her skin and I agree, that’s a perfect description.
The moisturising properties take care of any dry patches and my foundation (I’ve only used a liquid one with this primer), glides on smoothly and doesn’t budge all day. There’s a delicate sheen to my skin instead of an ageing, matt flatness.
I really like this product, perhaps it’s not for you if your skin is excessively oily, but for me, it helps to control my redness a little, it provides a good base for foundation and helps it last all day, plus it makes my skin feel soft and hydrated.
This is a ‘Limited Edition’ trial/travel version, so I’m not sure how long it will be available – although, it might ALWAYS be available, you know what brands are like…
Bobbi Brown are always running special offers, and the samples are generous sizes, so it’s always worth checking out the latest ones before you buy. Because there’s no price difference and it would be easier to take away with me on holiday, my next jar will also be the travel sized version.
