I’ve got an Emperor’s new clothes thing going on with this much-loved, best-selling mascara – I don’t get the hype.
The exclusive brush in this Benefit They’re Real! Mascara is specially designed to maximise the performance of the long-wearing, glossy (runny) formula – revealing lashes you never knew you had!
Staggered bristles grab close to the root, boosting length and volume beyond belief. (Nope, it doesn’t)
The precision bristles on the custom-domed tip lift, define and curl even your tiniest lashes. (No, the wand’s too big)
The end result…luxurious, silky lashes that won’t smudge, clump or dry out. (They’re not silky, and it does clump)
HOW TO USE
- Hold the mascara wand horizontally and give the brush a wiggle from side to side & base to tip for maximum volume, length and lift.
- Hold the wand vertically & stroke upward to curl and separate.
- Layer generously, as you wish.
I’m obviously on my own here, because this award-winning mascara has hundreds of positive reviews – although nearly always for the black version I should add.
I felt the formula was too thin, yet there was too much of it on the brush head, and I had to wipe off excess product with the long side of a cotton wool bud to get rid of it. That said, I found the mascara still clumped and smudged over my eyelids.
I also had an issue with the ‘precision’ dome head, it didn’t coat my inner lashes, but left a blobby bit I had to fish out with a cotton bud – I go though a lot of these.
My main concern though, is that the shade is off kilter. ‘Beyond Brown’ is a very warm toned, reddy brown and is not at all flattering – especially on blondes. Every single time I’ve worn it, it’s made my eyes look sore. I’m really disappointed, it wasn’t cheap either.
I love a lot of Benefit products (even though I think they’re over priced), but this one was a waste of money.
Benefit They’re Real!Mascara in Beyond Brown £19.50
I’ve just bought Expressionist Mascara (in the shade ‘Pro Brown’) £18.50 from W3LL PEOPLE a vegan make up company based in Texas. I’ve not heard of them before, so it’ll be interesting to see how this one works out.
