One such product is Marula Pure Beauty Oil – A multifunctional anti-ageing premium facial oil to hydrate, protect, and rejuvenate the skin.
Marula Oil by John Paul Selects, produces powerful healing and anti-ageing benefits, absorbs quickly into the skin, increasing firmness and elasticity as it helps reduce redness and inflammation.
This highly prized, Fair Trade oil from Africa, nourishes and deeply moisturises the skin, diminishing fine lines while providing powerful healing properties – including greater protection from free radical damage.
Light and non-greasy, it’s rich in omega fatty acids, vitamins and minerals, and has higher levels of antioxidants than Argan Oil.
Specially formulated for the face and neck, premium Marula Oil is a naturally soothing treatment that provides intense hydration, protection, and rejuvenation to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for soft, radiant skin.
It is suitable for all skin types and contains a high content of fatty acids, resulting in fast absorption to leave skin smooth with a matte finish.
Apply 3-5 drops daily to face, neck and hands to hydrate, moisturise and help reduce skin damage.
99% Marula Oil, Essential Oil Fragrance Blends (linalool, limonene)
Marula Oil can be used alone as a highly effective anti-ageing moisturiser, added to other facial products to boost their efficacy, soothe skin after facial treatments or sunburn, or used as a perfect makeup primer.
In Fair Trade partnership, Marula is derived from wild-harvested, hand-selected Marula nuts by East African women, then cold pressed for the highest quality and purity. Marula is also completed sustainable, only the fallen fruit is collected.
By using the fruit for jams, the nuts for Marula Oil, the shells for charcoal, and providing value to the wild stands of trees, the trees are protected.
The faint scent is unusual although not at all unpleasant. I looked up limonene – ‘citrus’ and linalool – ‘floral with a touch of spiciness’ and realised that is exactly the fragrance – a hint of citrus with spicy, floral undertones.
The texture is at first oily, but not greasy. The magic happens when you gently massage it in and it absorbs immediately without leaving any oily residue. It’s especially comforting applied on the back of the hands and cuticles soak it up.
I’ve passed the oil to a reviewer with exceptionally dry, parched skin. I was doubtful the oil would work as a foundation primer, I thought the oil would possibly leave me with a shiny face under my make up (my pet hate), but again, no sheen or oiliness, it just sinks into skin and leaves a silky finish – I wish I kept it now!
I have been using this oil now for about a month, and OMG what a difference! I can already tell that my complexion has evened out and acne scars started to fade, and it doesn’t break me out, which is HUGE!
I have combination/oily skin so initially, I was afraid of putting any kind of oil on my face, but I did my research, and Argan oil just felt too greasy, and this one had so many positive reviews, I know I made the right choice for me.
The fine lines are still a work in progress, but I’m not expecting a miracle 🙂 I would definitely recommend this product.
I made this purchase after reading several reviews, and have been pleased. I have used it with or without my serum and moisturizer and it is very hydrating and skin softening, and lasts all day. Have used many other facial oils and this one compares favourably.
I have been using this every night in conjunction with my daily skin care routine for the past year and it has worked miracles. It helped rejuvenate my skin and is very moisturising.
Recommended for those with ultra dry skin. This oil just gets absorbed in after a minute and does not feel greasy.
A little goes a long way. 2 drops for my neck (rub between your palms vigorously first) then PAT into your skin and then massage upward. Then add another drop or two to your hands and repeat and blot onto face. Don’t use too much and don’t apply directly to face or neck.
Always rub between hands first. Smoothing and hydrating. NOT OILY (if used correctly). Use as the first step after washing your face, then serum, and then moisturiser.
I use it over my night retinol, in the am over serum, under moisturiser. It works as a primer also soothes dry lips and cuticles.
The older I get, the more moisture my skin needs. I was nervous to try…I mean we were always told to not use oil on our faces, break out city. Not with this amazing product…total must. I apply my cream moisturiser, then pat this miracle product over the top.

UPDATE 17th September 2015
My reviewer went mad for this oil. One 30ml bottle lasted just over 4 months and she’s now cracked open another bottle – praise indeed!
Maria has exceptionally dry skin, mainly from too much sunbathing in the 80s! Tut, tut, but felt that the oil restored some of that lost moisture and is gradually rehydrating her skin. She also noticed that her skin tone and a few blemishes are showing the first faint signs of evening out – hence she wanted another bottle and fast!
Her preferred application method is to apply a few drops to the palm of her hands to warm the oil slightly, and then gently press the oil onto her face and neck.
Maria applies the oil in the evening as part of her night-time skin care ritual, under moisturiser. I can attest to the non-greasiness of Marula Oil – there’s no danger of the oil seeping into eyes when you’re asleep.
THE ‘FAIR TRADE’ MYTH
There’s this myth that’s still hanging about, even in 2015 (and I know, because I chatted to people about it recently at an event), that a ‘Fair Trade’ beauty product can’t possibly be as effective as modern, laboratory researched creams and serums.
But that’s the thing really, read the lengthy ingredients list on today’s moisturisers and along with preservatives (Pure Maurla Oil is presented in a dark bottle with a drop dispenser to keep it preserved and prevent contamination from fingers; keep it stored it in the box), they’re packed full of artificial chemicals. This doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re particularly harmful, but sometimes, I think I’d prefer a shorter ingredient list with names I can actually pronounce!
There are a few new Maurla Oil products in the range – a light hair treatment oil; an eye cream and a travel size oil in a roller ball container.
UPDATE 17th December 2015
I make no apologies for this third update of John Paul Selects Marula Pure Beauty Oil.
My reviewers have loved using the oil in various ways:
To rehydrate and soften sun damaged skin
As part of their nightly skin care routine
Applied after cleansing
Massaged into lips to help soften vertical smoker’s lines
Moisturising dry shins
I’ve used it myself at night under serum – it’s so light, the oil sinks in immediately, and before make up in the morning, particularly on blustery days when my skin is feeling a bit sore and tight.
My last reviewer, who has just reached the end of her bottle, is probably the fussiest and most demanding of all of them – my mum.
My mum has always been known for her beautiful skin and she credits that to virgin olive oil. Long before oils were developed specifically for the face by beauty brands, my mum massaged olive oil (particularly hard to obtain over 50 years ago), into her skin every morning and evening.
After seeing a friend of ours with glowing skin, my mum was surprised (and a bit miffed, I think), to learn I’d given her a bottle of Marula Oil to trial. Naturally, she was keen to try it for herself.
The result is that she’s just finished her first bottle and is now a convert. It’s lighter than olive oil, it moisturises her skin and most importantly, it absorbs instantly.
A 50 year beauty habit broken, impressive.
