REVIEW: Charlotte Tilbury Long-Lasting Easy Cream Eyeshadow
This is awkward, I was just about to praise Charlotte Tilbury’s Long-Lasting Easy Cream Eyeshadow and declare it as a rare ‘value for money’ product from her make up collection, when I flipped the jar over to check the weight and I read it has a shelf life of a mere 6 months.
Suddenly, £22.00 for 7ml feels very expensive indeed, which is a shame, because this is a beautiful eyeshadow and probably, no definitely, the best cream formula I’ve ever used.
According to Charlotte (I love her high camp voice and videos), ‘Jean’ is a sparkling champagne shade, although the official swatch makes it look more like a pale bronze, and indeed, it does look like that in the pot. My swatch below, is much more accurate.
The beauty of this eyeshadow is that it changes hue according to the light and how much (or little) you build it up. Once on, the shade can be described as a rose gold toned bronze.
However, applied over NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk, it transforms into a pale, buttery gold. If I apply a dab of Mac’s Gleam over that, then the colour really ‘pops’ and takes on a deeper, shinier, golden pink.
The metallic effect is soft and shimmery, but becomes more pronounced and glossier as you layer it.
Shiny eyeshadows, especially these cream ones, are not kind to older eyelids, they draw attention to every wrinkle. The trick is to apply it a little below the natural crease line, and concentrate the colour in the centre area of the eyelid, keeping it well away from the inner and outer corners of the eye.
If you have a steady hand and a fine tipped brush, then a delicate line of this eyeshadow on the lower lash line really lights up eyes, perfect for a glamorous evening look.
There are 6 shades in the Eyes to Mesmerise range, although, because Jean is so versatile, I wouldn’t even consider three of the other golden and bronze shades.
Veruschka looks like a dullish grey/green shade, which I think would be tricky to wear for most people. But Cleopatra is a stunning colour, a vibrant smokey, peacock-blue, that will look particularly gorgeous on darker skin tones.
The silky consistency of this eye colour helps it to glide on smoothly and it lasts all day. There’s none of this creasing nonsense you sometimes get with cream formulations.
Application of all shades should be feather light. The pigment is strong, you only need a smudge of colour.
If this little pot was £11.00 and lasted 12 months, it would be the bargain of the century.
A truly beautiful eyeshadow, one of my favourites, no wonder so many people love Charlotte’s make up range.
