On paper, this shampoo just shouldn’t work on my fine hair. It’s a rich, cleansing shampoo, designed specifically for ‘all thick hair types’ containing a blend of coconut and coriander oils and shea butter.
Super rich and nourishing, the Kérastase Elixir Ultime Oléo-Riche is a luxurious cleansing oil, enriched with the best quality oils to rid hair of dirt, excess oil and product build up while conditioning and softening.
In theory, it should weigh down my hair and make it lank and greasy, but oh my, it is truly perfection in a bottle.
The result is that my hair is soft and silky, but it still has body and my blonde highlights glow! At £16.00* (the RRP is £20.00 but no one pays that), it’s incredibly expensive, but used properly and sparingly, it’s a worthwhile investment.
The gold lidded bottle is glamour personified, as is the heavily perfumed scent – think typical Kérastase fragrance with a luxurious coconut twist.
The thick, slightly oily/viscousy shampoo is clear and doesn’t have ‘a beautiful amber glow’ that ‘looks like liquid gold’ as one well-known blogger, who I won’t name out of
fear she might hunt me down sisterly solidarity, described it. Hmm, girl, were you sent the product to review and whacked it on eBay without even opening it, I wonder?
HOW TO USE
You should only need to do one shampoo and use a tiny amount of product, because it lathers up fast. This is because even though it is silicone and paraben-free, it does contain the cleansing agent, sodium laureth sulfate, (sodium lauryl sulfate’s less evil sister).
Because of the heavy oil content, keep it away from the roots. When you start to rinse, you can rub a little of the lather onto your scalp to clean it that way.
I’ve always been a huge fan of Kérastase hair products, although I certainly haven’t loved all of them. I was very disappointed with the Cristalliste range, I found it didn’t do anything at all for my hair and was just as good (or bad), as a cheaper brand.
There is a an ‘Oléo-Complexe’ version, suitable for all hair types, which I’m assuming is a lighter formulation, but I’m more than happy with the Oléo-Riche version. My hair is 100% better and more importantly, brighter, on the days I use it. I absolutely love this shampoo.
