ROSACEA SPECIAL: REVIEW KALME Skin Care
Mostly affecting the fair-skinned among us, rosacea is easily identified; the face is prone to flushing, skin is red, and there can be obvious broken blood vessels and sometimes, acne like pimples. The eyes can also be affected with symptoms such as dry, sore and even ‘gritty’ feeling eyes.
Not only does this chronic skin condition affect more women than men, it can flare up suddenly during menopause and it may not go away – as if we don’t have enough to cope with!
KALME range is a scientifically based skin care range developed for treating hyper sensitive skin and skin prone to redness (rosacea).
The products are formulated with a patented antioxidant called NDGA, that is up to 100 times more effective than vitamin E, C or grape seed and proven in clinical trials to reduce skin inflammation and helps combat acne.
Derma Sensitive is a natural active from young caper buds. Scientifically shown to reduce skin redness and sensitivity by up to 70%.
A super antioxidant active neutralises free radicals and lowers the oxidative stress on your skin.
Perilla seed extract is a naturally rich source of skin beneficial Omega 3 and Alpha Linolenic Acids.

NIGHT REPAIR CREAM
The focus is on repair rather than defence. This cream also contains an effective all night moisturisation ingredient so that your skin starts each day feeling rested, repaired and refreshed.
For me, this has to be the star product of the range. If you want to try KALME products, but don’t want to commit to purchasing a full kit, then at least try this very effective overnight cream.
It’s fragrance free, easily absorbed – although give it a few seconds to sink in, and non greasy. I’ve been using it for 3 weeks and I can already see a noticeable improvement and a decrease in redness on the cheeks.
While it certainly doesn’t dry out the skin, I would say that’s it’s not particularly moisturising, leave that to the day cream.
Daily moisturiser with a mineral sun block designed to defend the skin from redness. Contains a patented form of micronised zinc oxide called NanoSun, that gives a transparent finish on the skin, using pure zinc only instead of combining it with titanium dioxide.
A must have under foundation and it’s matt too, so no oily shine under make up. When first applied to the skin, the whiteness of zinc oxide is at first, very obvious, but once massaged in, it does becomes transparent. It’s fairly thick, so only apply a thin, but even, layer to cover and protect skin during the day.
TINTED TREATMENT FOUNDATION
An anti-redness, medicated tinted moisturiser to reduce redness and skin sensitivity and help camouflage any tell-tale signs of redness. Also contains actives to keep the skin moisturised for 24 hours.
This is a very light skin tone shade. It does covers redness and I can see how this colour would be ideal for a lot of fair skin tones, but for me, it was just a couple of beats too light. However, it is ideal as a thin base under foundation to prevent redness peeping through.
Removes irritants such as dirt, grime and pollutants. Uses a combination of intelligent oils to leave the face perfectly clean and lightly moisturised without flushing or reddening of the skin.
I’m currently reviewing another cleanser and I don’t want them to ‘cross-over’, so this is the only product I haven’t used so far. However, reviews on the SkinShop website say it’s gentle but effective, and non irritating on sensitive skin.
