ORIGINAL POST 30th September 2013
Shiny hair is youthful looking hair. If you’re older and want to wear longer hairstyles, then your hair should be in superb condition.
Easier said than done though, hair masks and finishing oils help of course, but as I’ve recently discovered, fluctuating hormones have changed the structure of my hair and some days, no matter what I do, my hair just hates me and hangs there either lank and greasy or dry and brittle.
It’s a 10 – Miracle leave-in product
What is it?
An after shampoo leave-in conditioner
- Repairs dry, damaged hair (same as 6 & 7)
- Adds shine (same as 8)
- Controls frizz
- Seals & protects hair colour
- Prevents split ends (same as 7)
- Stops hair breakage (not sure any product can do this)
- Creates silkiness
- Enhances natural body (nope, not really)
- Flat iron spray & thermal protector
The first time I used this cult US hair product, I followed the instructions religiously:
Shampoo and condition hair, towel dry, spray product all over hair and comb through.
Yes, my Tangle Teezer glided through my hair, but the problem was that once my hair was blow dried, it was so dull and ‘heavy’ that I had to wash it all over again (we were going out, so THAT went down really well).
The second time I used it, I was more cautious and didn’t spray it on all over, I used just three sprays. Again, my hair was greasy with product, only this time I couldn’t wash it out and I had to face the world with what looked like unwashed hair, not happy. I didn’t even have time to carry out that age-old trick of only washing my fringe and putting the rest up in a ponytail, it just flopped about without any shape or style – and people noticed!
Down to just two sprays and once more, flat, unable to style, hair. The idea of having wasted money was really annoying me, so I gave it one last chance (you know, that thing you do when you will a product to work) and used just one spray.
The way I use it and someone in a review I’ve read since, says exactly the same thing, is to spray it once on my palm, rub my hands together and distribute it through my hair about 3 inches down from my roots, concentrating on the ends. You will think that it’s not nearly enough, but don’t be fooled, it’s plenty!
The result, shiny hair – and this is blonde hair we’re talking about; straight, no kinks or frizzy/flyaway bits. I don’t use any other styling products, not even a serum. It’s a 10 replaces ALL of my other ‘smooth, finishing’ hair products. In fact, you put anything else on top of it and your hair will go all limp.
My hair is just super dry and brittle. Especially now during the cold and dry winter we have in Norway. But this spray actually work really well. My hair is more shiny, stronger, easier to brush, doesn’t tangle up so easily.
My hairdresser recommended this product a couple of years back and since then I won’t be without it. All my friends I recommended it to love it the same as I do. Conditions hair a treat. Dryness and split ends are reduced as well as drying time. Small bottle but lasts a long time.
After hearing that this was like the Jesus of makeup products I decided to give it a go. Well, I’m happy to have tried it because it really is a 10, haha. I sprayed this all over my hair while it was still damp after a shower and I woke up and my ends were amazingly moisturised and it was sooo easy to brush through the next morning. Worth the hype!
Do not let the price tag throw you off, this product is a must have for bi-racial hair, if you have curly/wavy hair that tends to frizz this is going to be a lifesaver. My hair looks and feels softer every time I use it. My style holds so much longer, without the crunch hairspray feel, instead its luxurious and soft. The mister pump on this product sprays a very fine mist, so hair is not weighed down.
This spray is the only thing that will help get the comb through my tangled, frizzy curly hair. It was recommended to me and I’ve never looked back.
Although not everyone’s a fan:
I loved this at first, but it weighed down my hair a lot. The next day my hair would be completely greasy and flat.
This stuff is good for fine wavy hair like mine, however the bottle is very small for its very expensive price. It didn’t last me very long and when it gets down to the last 1/4 of the bottle because the product is a cream the pump didn’t work properly so I had to scoop it out and rub it in.
John Frieda Frizz Ease Daily Miracle Treatment does EXACTLY the same thing as this product at a fraction of the price, and if this stuff was the same price I still would choose Frizz Ease as its a liquid and as such the spray is a lot better and also I think makes my hair less static and frizzy than this product.
Just in case I was having one of those all too rare, freak ‘good hair days’ I’ve used it several times since, always two or three days apart, but with the same outcome. I also think it really is having an accumulative effect, my hair is definitely feeling smoother and easier to manage.
It is really expensive, but how long is it going to last if you’re just using one spray each time? Bear in mind that my hair is very fine, maybe thicker hair will take two sprays, it’s something to experiment with.
Would I recommend it? Yes, but only if you’ve used up all of your other hair conditioning products. I regret buying such a huge bottle, if you can get a smaller one and I have seen then, then it would make more sense, easier to take on holiday as well.
The scent is exactly like a well-known brand’s leave-in conditioner, possibly a Redken product, it’ll come to me.
There are other products in the range, including It’s a 10 with Keratin and a leave-in conditioner for blondes, which I would’ve loved to have tried if I’d spotted it earlier. Finding online UK distributors is tricky, my bottle took nearly two weeks to arrive from the US via Amazon UK.
It’s a 10 £14.45 (price went down since last year) Amazon.co.uk
UPDATE 27th January 2014
I’m very happy to say, it is STILL 10 out of 10 for this product.
My hair over the past few months has become a lot healthier, I wasn’t sure if just one spray would be enough to have any effect on it. But one spray is still enough, it feels as if you’re not putting anywhere near enough product through your hair to make a visible difference, but you do and it does!
Still should’ve bought the smaller size though.
UPDATE 27th MARCH 2015
Less of an update and more of a warning really. This is still a wonderful product, I’m serious when I say that as a styling spray, it really will leave your hair soft and shiny and it’s so economical, one spray is all you need. But whatever you do, don’t ever use it to ‘freshen up’ barely damp hair.
I had one of those ‘bad hair days’ recently. My contrary, uncooperative hair just wouldn’t behave, so I threw the bottle into my handbag (only because it was one of the few products to retain its lid) and thought I could fix it at work.
Once there, I dampened my hair down with cold water, sprayed a squirt into my hand, rubbed it through my hair and blow dried it – because we all have a hair dryer and cheapy ’emergency’ hair tongs at work don’t we? No? Just me then.
Well, the smell on my hair was horrible, a nasty, lingering chemical/artificial, fragrance. (Apply it to freshly washed hair and the scent evaporates). I was very conscious of it all day and no matter how much I tried to ‘dilute’ this awful whiff with water and then hair spray, it just wouldn’t leave me. It reeked all day and I couldn’t get home quick enough.
