REVIEW: Joico K-Pak Reconstructor
My hair is still going through an up and down phase, soft and shiny one week, coarse and dry the next.
The menopause kicking in you say? Maybe it’s the current hot and humid weather, but it is just not behaving itself, so I thought I would try to tackle it in another way.
Enter then, Joico K-Pak Deep-Penetrating Reconstructor for Damaged Hair.
A powerful five-minute reconstructor that rebuilds and strengthens stressed, physically and/or chemically treated hair.
Lost or depleted amino acids are replenished with a high concentration of Quadramine Complex for maximum reconstruction and protection from the cuticle to the cortex.
With the use of Joico K-Pak Deep-Penetrating Reconstructor for Damaged Hair, weak and damaged hair is restored to its original strength and condition, helping to prevent colour loss and making your hair more responsive to styling.
HOW TO USE
- Apply to clean, damp hair
- Leave in for 5 minutes (10 MAX) & rinse
Joico K-Pak Deep Penetrating Reconstructor is an intense hydrating treatment that restores moisture to overly dry or damaged hair. The product seals the cuticle, imparts shine and improves manageability and elasticity.
I have a lot of bleach damage in my hair. When I bought this my hair was feeling gummy when wet, but after using it once all the gummy is gone and my hair feels normal when wet again. My hair also dried quicker than it usually does, which is another sign that some damage was repaired. I really love this product, it actually works.
I think it’s a little expensive, but the price is worth it. If your hair is very damaged and is prone to breakage when wet, this will actually help you. You shouldn’t use it too often, so one tube will last you a while.
It smells good (kind of like banana?) and the package is pretty standard. A protein treatment can leave your hair feeling a little dry (this is normal) so use a good conditioner afterwards.
It is a bit hard to tell if this product is working to be honest. It doesn’t leave your hair feeling any different. It also smells a bit odd. I normally really like Joico but I’m not sure if I’d buy this again.
This is a really good protein treatment. It definitely does its job. However after using it so many times it really hasn’t done much for me. The first few times were the only times this took full effect. But to me it’s still a must have for when I go through a chemical process just to breathe some life back into my hair.
I recommend it for sure, just do not leave on longer than 10 minutes or so because it’s pretty powerful and too much protein can cause the hair to snap.< EEK!
This is not a conditioner and should not be used as one. It is a reconstructor, and should be used once every 1-2 weeks depending on necessity, and you should still condition your hair after rinsing out the constructor. I love to use it especially after dying my hair. It immediately changes my hair’s texture, softness and look, and all for the better.
I have relaxed hair and it was dry and brittle with slightly damaged ends and had tried everything to keep it hydrated and supple but nothing worked. This has transformed my hair beyond belief. It is now glossy, shiny and super soft and it actually feels strong and I really noticed a difference to my hair’s texture even after the first use.
For best results, leave on for 10-15 mins (no, 5-10 mins I’d say) and use a heated hood / shower cap and hair dryer as the hair will absorb the product better.
I really like this product, it lives up to its reputation and yes, it does smell of bananas (I thought I’d bought a dud one at first). Reading above, I should have used conditioner afterwards.
I wasn’t sure what to expect, my hair immediately absorbed the product, but not in a deep conditioning way (because it’s not a conditioner, as I now realise), but in a ‘suck it all up’ way, it was hard to comb through afterwards as well. Lesson learned, I’ll do it differently next time, watch this space.
UPDATE: January 2015
I’ve used this product a few more times now (every 6 weeks in fact) and I’m truly a convert. I ‘get’ the rave reviews, but I also know that you must follow it up after rinsing with a good moisturising conditioner. This protein treatment does ‘reconstruct’ and rebuild hair – texture of hair is almost stiff afterwards, so you need to put moisture back.
Remember also, to only leave it on hair for a maximum of 10 minutes. I’ve never left it longer than that, so I can’t say what would happen, but I’m not risking it!
As for my post reconstructor conditioner, I stay in the Joico ‘family’ and use Joico Moisture Recovery Treatment Balm. In fact, I love it so much I bought a huge tub of it when it was on special offer and I even decant some (hard as it’s very thick) to take on holiday with me.
I also apply both products using this easy home steam treatment method to maximum results.
