Maybelline Lash Stiletto Ultimate Length Mascara

Maybelline Lash Stiletto Ultimate Length Mascara
I tried my best with Clarins Be Long Mascara – with the most perfect, slightly angled, brush head wand that got right into the corners, the non clumpy application that transformed stumpy lashes into something more substantial and an intense dark brown shade – it ticked all the boxes, apart from the most important one – it flakes (very badly indeed) after a couple of hours. I went through three of them and the same thing happened each time. A sure sign that it was time to move on.

Maybelline’s Lash Stiletto Ultimate Length Mascara does seem to be the complete opposite to Be Long, a quarter of the price for a start. The brush is huge and spiky and the mascara is a fairly ‘wet’ formulation with a faint scent of bluebells (although some people think it’s more of a rose scent).

Do for lashes what stilettos do for legs. Our polymer enriched formula coats each lash.

New Stretch & Set brush, with unique criss-cross bristles, firmly grasps lashes. Contact lens safe.
 Ophthalmologist-tested.

I always choose brown mascara. The brown shade is more mid brown than dark brown. The shades (if you can find them), appear to be Brown, Blackish Brown and Very Black (with waterproof formulas too).  I wish I could wear black mascara to ‘pop’ my eyes, I love the look of dark eyebrows and lashes with blonde hair, but on me, it always looks too harsh and ageing. I’m being reverse ageist here, but I really think dark, sooty eyes are best suited to younger skin.

This mascara doesn’t volumise and because of the brush size, it can be quite tricky to get into the inner corners of your eyes. But what it does do, is lengthen the sparsest of lashes, separates them and, this is the biggie, IT DOESN’T FLAKE!

Removal is easy, I use Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish to remove my eye make up and this one just melts away under the cream.

This mascara adds LENGTH not necessarily volume (volume mascaras = thick goopy spider legs in my opinion). The length looks beautiful and natural, just short of what false lashes give! I’m serious. It also doesn’t flake off over the day.

This is some of the best mascara I have ever used. It lengthens, defines, doesn’t clump, doesn’t have that gummy texture that a lot of mascaras have, dries quickly, washes easily, and you don’t pay a high price. I will buy this as long as they keep making it – I so hope they never discontinue it.

The pigmentation is great and the formula is the perfect consistency, not too thick, not too watery. It isn’t flaky and lasts all day. The brush is great for making lashes look long and lush (not good for thickening). I typically use this as a finishing coat over 2-3 coats of volumising mascara so I get length and volume together.

For a drug store mascara it really does a good job of defining and separating my lashes. I love the brush, though the sharp poky bristles might not be everyone’s cup of tea. I do stray away to other mascaras, but I always have one of these in my makeup drawer waiting.

This is a good mascara if you have short lashes because it does gives length. Not really much volume. If you want a subtle, daytime, and lengthy look, this mascara is good. Doesnt clump and nice brush too, separates lashes. I like lots of volume more than length, so this mascara wasn’t really for me.

NOT FOR EVERYONE

You will love (or loathe) this mascara depending on kind of lashes you have and the effect you want to achieve. The negative reviews say the same thing, that the mascara creates a spidery effect and that its wet consistency can smudge upon application and leave traces on the upper eyelid.

I tend to agree to some extent, I always use the ‘stem’ part of a cotton wool bud to wipe away excess product – it helps that Lash Stiletto is quite cheap, would I do that to a £20+ mascara? Probably not. The ‘spidery’ effect doesn’t bother me, lashes are defined and separated, that’s exactly what I’m asking for.

I did not like this mascara. I like big bold lashes but this have me a really bad spider lash effect. It didn’t add a lot of volume or length. It just looked like I had 5 thin lashes.

Product goes on too wet for me. I have to be very careful to apply it or it leaves mascara on eyelids.

Spider legs for daaaays. I tried to love this mascara, I really did, but the way it clumped and made my lashes stiff and spider-y just didn’t work for me.

This was a huge offender in creating spider lashes for me. I am personally not into the spiky lashes look, but I know some are, so give it a try if you are. It also always got on my upper eyelid which was annoying, as was the rose smell.

My quest for the perfect mascara doesn’t end here, I know it’s out there somewhere, but for now (and considering it’s under a fiver), this will do nicely.
