Clarins Blue Orchid Face Oil Plus Face Massage Techniques UPDATED

Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment OilUPDATE: 5th June 2014 The price has just shot up to £32.00 from £30.00 in February! Unfortunately, The Gorgeous Shop no longer stock it, which is a shame as it was priced at a very reasonable £23.95.

ORIGINAL POST: 8th February 2014

I’ve just purchased a second bottle of this face oil. The recommended price is now £30.00 [Edit £32.00 now!] The oil is good value at any price, as you only need a few drops of it at a time, the glass pipette is hygienic and controls the amount of oil so no wastage.

WHAT IS IT?

Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil is a skin care treatment for dehydrated skin. This best-selling oil has extracts of Rosewood, Patchouli and Blue Orchid to tone, revitalise and restore radiance to moisture-depleted skin. Hazelnut oil helps prevent moisture loss and the formation of fine lines.

HOW TO APPLY

Apply a small amount to face and neck still damp with Toning Lotion, avoiding the eye contour area.
Gently dab face with a soft tissue to remove any excess product.

Clarins recommends that you use the oil at night on a damp face. That’s important as the oil can better sink into your skin when your face is damp. They also advice you to warm the oil in the palm of your hands before you pat it on your face. You don´t need much oil, only 2 or 3 drops as too much oil leaves your skin a bit greasy.
I use a few drops of the oil after washing and spraying my face with thermal water at night and wake up with baby soft skin.

REVIEWS:

This is a versatile oil. Mixing a couple of drops with toner and pressing it onto your skin is the recommend usage by Clarins, but as you can see below, women layer it; mix it with their own moisturiser; apply it over water instead of toner; add a drop to their face mask; use it for a scalp massage or, as I do, use it as a face massage oil.

MIXING WITH TONER

With the help of the toner, the oil is less sticky and absorbs into my skin really fast. Also when I mix it with toner, I actually use less product so it will last longer.

WATER INSTEAD OF TONER

For best results it should be massaged lightly over damp skin – Clarins suggest after use of their Toning Lotion but a splash of water will do, as the purpose is to use the oil to lock in the moisture.

LAYERING

I have been finding my skin is getting drier (an age thing); winter and air-conditioned workplaces mean that by the end of the day my skin can be very dry, tight and parched. I tried using a few drops of this oil in the morning (yes, really!) under my day moisturiser. If it’s really cold outside I’ll layer another moisturiser over it too. It really does work – my skin is more comfortable and still radiant at the end of the day.

Water freezes in the cold so it makes sense to use an oil based product to protect the skin. It’s worth a try if you have extremely dry skin; if your skin needs it, it will just soak up the oil and I’ve had no problems putting makeup on afterwards.

I use a few drops each night under my night cream (which I use less of now) and really notice a difference in the morning if I skip a night! It leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated and helps my morning moisture routine.

ADD TO MOISTURISER

Very nourishing, particularly in dry winter weather. I have come to love this oil and add a few drops to any moisturiser I use.

I have come to really love this product, as has my skin. At first I used it on its own, or layered with moisturiser but that didn’t do much to my skin. I read that people mix it with their moisturiser and for some reason that makes all the difference. I use it morning and evening and my skin is healthy, plump and dewy (if I use too much it’s greasy at first but penetrates quickly enough).

SCENT

Personally, I’m not that keen on the fragrance. The scent of patchouli is very strong and distinctive and I’ve always thought of it as rather masculine. It’s nothing I can’t live with though – it’s not like it’s a fish oil or anything. Not unpleasant, just strong.

It has quite a strong smell, which some people might not like. It’s not greasy, and you just put a tiny bit in your hand and press it into your skin.

I really like how this oil makes my face feel, but it does smell very strongly of patchouli. So, if this is not something you would like, then I would not recommend purchasing this face oil.

HIGH ON CRACK

A Clarins therapist described the aroma of this oil as “chocolate orange” which is exactly what it smells like! <No, no it doesn’t, you crazy woman!

DRY SCALP

I use this on my scalp when it gets dry and flaky. I put a bit of the product on my fingertips and work it into my scalp. It doesn’t make my hair greasy at all but gets rid of the dryness.

INTERESTING – SOMETHING TO TRY!

A tip from other reviewers, is to put it into your face mask. I can easily imagine that this also works beautifully.

PROBLEM SKIN

I have psoriasis on my face and other places. My face has been loaded with scales and even my prescription topical wasn’t helping with the scales. The Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil has made a huge difference after just a few days. What a great product if you have severely dry skin–which is a problem of psoriasis.

DARKER SKINTONES

During winter my face turns against me and becomes super dry and ashy. I am fairly dark-skinned so any ashyness is noticeable. I use this on my face at night after my shower and it keeps my face moisturised. I also mix this into other creams and it keeps my skin moisturised longer. A little goes a long way so it lasts quite a long time.

STORAGE

The oil should be stored in a dark bottle so it doesn’t go ‘off’ I suggest if you have this oil you keep it in a dark place, oil does not like daylight.

FACE MASSAGE

I’m always on the lookout for simple self facial massages techniques and here are two new ones I’ve found.

The first is from a beautiful (and spiritual – there’s lots of reading) website by Kimberly F Moore called Shaki Womyn

Shakti WomynThe second is a video by ‘Oxford Jasmine’

It’s actually a cleansing massage, but you can use a facial oil to follow the same steps. Jasmine’s voice is soothing and melodic and technique is easy to replicate.
