UNDER REVIEW: Elemis Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Gel Mask

Elemis Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Gel Mask
Elemis Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Gel Mask launched in April 2009 as part of the Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing skin care programme, along with a Facial Wash, Serum and a Night Cream.

WHAT IS IT?

A revolutionary gel-based Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Mask which combines patented tri-enzyme technology to encourage effective retexturising of the skin’s surface and balance sebum levels without compromising the natural pH levels.

Enzymes play a major role in promoting cell function, they are the catalyst used by the cell to produce a cellular reaction. Enzymes encourage both cell regeneration and the breakdown of dead cells

WHAT DOES IT CLAIM TO DO?

Effectively encouraging the resurfacing of your skin, the Elemis Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Gel Mask addresses the decline in skin renewal as your skin ages. You’ll be left with instantly smoother, shine-free and more radiant skin.

  • Addresses fine lines & blemishes.
  • Helps balance sebum levels without compromising the skins natural pH balance.
  • Promotes firmer looking skin.
  • Suitable for Mature and All Skin types.

PRE USE

It’s a necessary evil, but always carry out a 24 hour patch test before trying any new product,  especially a ‘resurfacing’ one. Skin care technology is marching on and we don’t always have time to read and research every new ‘miracle’ ingredient listed on the label (although we should).

DIRECTIONS

  • Apply twice weekly to cleansed skin, avoiding your eye and lip area.
  • On application you’ll experience a powerful tingling sensation, don’t panic, this is the Tri-Enzymes activating on your skin.
  • Leave on for 8-10 minutes, then remove with warm water.
  • Follow with your night cream.

AFTER CARE

Another point to remember when using a skin cell sloughing product is to step up your SPF to 30 or higher and of course avoid sunbeds – Did you know that sales of fake tan and sunbed usage RISES during sunny weather? Be careful, you’re revealing new (upper level) skin here which is super sensitive so you’re more susceptible to sun damage and burning than ever, don’t undo all the good work.

REVIEWS

My skin felt like the cobwebs had been blown away, its difficult to properly describe the feeling. My skin felt cool and almost damp, but not in a bad way. It felt fresh, rather like the feeling of popping a mint into your mouth but on the face!!I certainly noticed a smoothing of the skin and my moisturiser was absorbed so quickly.

My skin is definitely a lot smoother and I’m starting to notice a reduction in the discolouration around my temples where my acne was at its worst. After the second application my skin was even softer and my forehead lines although they had not disappeared the line was not as deep as before, very impressive.

I was a little wary at first and thought it might sting but, no it just has this cold tingling sensation and leaves my skin so smooth, my pores looked less noticeable too, amazing!

An enzyme mask, or peel, is much gentler than a glycolic or lactic acid peel, or even a physical scrub. I’d always recommend an enzyme peel for those who have sensitive skin or inflamed acne. Because the enzymes work on a microscopic cellular level, the degree of refinement is much deeper than your apricot scrub, and not nearly as irritating. Sounds like a great product, but the enzyme treatments you get in the spa are professional strength, so they are a bit stronger. This would still be great for home use!

I suffer from hyperpigmentation and after regularly using this product, my skin looks renewed and more even. Highly recommended!

I have continued to use this on a weekly basis and my skin is just absolutely soft, clear and youthful looking and I’m now over 50! I know Elemis is pricey, but I love it and can’t recommend the products enough.

It gets rid of the dead flaky skin without drying and the skin texture is left soft, smooth and hydrated. My skin always looks like I’ve had a facial after using this. This also has a cooling effect and lasts for several minutes after washing the mask off. Does not irritate sensitive skin.

I have used for a few weeks now and have noticed that my skin texture is much smoother and more radiant.

This mask is sensational, the first time I used it my skin tingled quite intensely and left my skin feeling cool, it left my skin so so soft I was very impressed however, after the second application my skin was even softer and my forehead lines although they had not disappeared the line was not as deep as before, very impressive.

WHERE TO BUY

The RRP is £48.00 but Elemis Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Mask 50ml is available from Look Fantastic for £38.25 (Free P & P)

I’ve also found it at Cheap Smells for £31.98 (Free P&P)

I haven’t shopped at Cheap Smells before, but I see they’ve got some decent discounts on other Elemis products so they might be worth a browse.

My skin’s had a three-week ‘rest’ from products – just 30SPF sunscreen and a Clinique moisturiser. The patch test is fine and yes, it is cooling as the reviews have stated, so I will start trialling this mask immediately – for about 4-6 weeks.
