Hall of Fail: VO5 Heat Defence Volume Whipped Mousse
To infuse long-lasting body and vitality into your style. Adds volume and bounce. Long lasting firm hold. Heat activated – helps protect from heat damage. Doesn’t weigh hair down, non sticky.
Shake can well before using. For best results use on damp hair. Hold can upside down. Apply evenly through your hair, starting at the roots, lifting the hair, and work through with your fingertips. Blow dry as normal.
The mousse itself is gorgeous – weightless indeed. It squirts out looking exactly like fluffy whipped cream, only whiter and lighter. The scent is faintly floral, no hint of any chemical odour. It’s not sticky or foamy and is easy to rake into your hair and distributes evenly, the comb glides through to the ends.
But looks of course, aren’t everything. This mousse didn’t work on my fine (older) hair. I used more each time and still, my hair ‘dropped’ after an hour. My hair was not sticky or stiff and felt soft, but a bit too soft. Granted, there was a little volume, but the lift and shape of the hair didn’t last.
Most mousses I’ve tried are too foamy and don’t really penetrate my thick hair, but this one does brilliantly. It’s not too sticky either, which is always a bonus. I use about a golf ball-sized amount, maybe a little more, and pin my hair up while I do my make up. I then blow-dry it upside-down which adds a lot more volume too. When I’m done, my hair feels soft and bouncy and I don’t need any hairspray.
I’d recommend this mousse for anyone who is looking for a new mousse, including people with fine/thin hair, as its so light and will not weigh down your hair!
It doesn’t give a massive amount of volume but it gives me just enough that my hair doesn’t start to look like it needs scaffolding, it actually makes my hair easier to style and my hair keeps it shape better.
I tried this product once and now will never do without. It is so lightweight and doesn’t make hair look at all greasy. I have fine hair and I know some mousses can give hair an almost dirty texture but this looks and feels fabulous.
But I did find one reviewer who agreed with my findings.
I think this product works better as a heat protector rather than a volumising mouse. When I blow dried my hair upside down I could see a slight difference, but the volume didn’t hold for long.
